I know as I lived in New England for a few years. I was trying to spin off the pork roll thread into a hoagie / grinder thread.

Precious cargo coming home! This has been a fun little adventure. When I picked up the pizza this morning, I got to speak to the owner of the Pizza Palace, a good Greek guy named Teddy. He opened it in 1965, His son now owns and operates the place, but Teddy is still the Master pizza man! Teddy is 86, and still makes dough and pizza every day, by hand, just like he’s done since ‘65!! I told him the story, about enjoying the clam pizza when I was stationed there years ago, and how I’d been telling my wife about this pizza for damn near 20 years! He was absolutely thrilled that his little ole pizza place was such a fond memory for me over so many years, and that I was (finally!!) going to be able to have my wife experience it too! We had a nice conversation, a few laughs, and strict instructions on how to finish cooking this pizza!! Homeward bound!

Some food for thought: A: Go to YouTube or your web browser and search something like "minimum self-defense caliber" - you will find TONS of info, much of it by ballistics experts, and NONE of which recommend .22lr! After an hour or two, you'll be utterly convinced to get something a bit more robust. (I know this, because it's what I did - and the abundance of evidence is very large indeed). B: I appreciate your concern for your hearing, it's smart... hearing loss is a serious thing! That said, a bullet in your chest is even MORE serious. You gotta figure if you're pulling your gun out for self-defense, you've got a VERY big problem on your hands... and your concern for your hearing will suddenly plummet in importance! Keep in mind, if you have the bucks, you could always pay the extra dollars to get a suppressor (it's a special permit - I think a couple hundred bucks?) It won't silence the gun, but it will perhaps reduce SOME of the hearing damage...? It's advantage is that you don't have to "remember" it under stress (as you would with other hearing protection). But, I'm sure others on here more knowledgeable than myself will have even better ideas! And... welcome to the forums! Oh... and if anyone on here is boorish enough to ask you to state your favorite breakfast meat, the only proper answer is: "Why...it's Taylor Ham, of course!" [Your welcome! ]

We’ve talked about bbq brisket and ribs, we’ve talked about making sausage, and dry curing meats. Now, let’s talk pizza!! Today (well, tomorrow), I get to have a very rare treat for me. For years, I was stationed in Groton, Ct at the submarine base. Back when I was a wee sea pup, we used to go to this place in Groton called simply, The Pizza Palace. They have THE BEST clam pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life. Clam pizza, you say??!! Imagine fresh, chopped clams, in an AMAZING garlic butter and wine sauce, on a pizza, with fresh grated Parmesan cheese. Holy cow.....THATS some good eats! Ive been telling Mrs Tex about this pizza for nearly 20 years, and we always meant to road trip up here for a slice of this gastronomic treat! Well, we never made it up here for one reason or another. Last Friday, I found I had to go to Providence for work, so I called the Pizza Palace. They will par-bake one, and freeze it for me!!!! I popped by and ordered a pie to be frozen, for my trip home tomorrow. I’m so excited to have Mrs Tex taste this (and me too!!), I can hardly sit still! So kids, if you’re ever up in Eastern Ct for some reason, stop by the Pizza Palace in Groton, and order a fresh clam pizza!! You’ll thank me later! Ill post pics when I get it home and finish baking it!! Woohoo!!

That makes zero sense... Suppressors are already legal at a federal level... They have zero authority to tell a state to legalize something without a SCOTUS ruling.

Yes. And I'll never understand why all these Dominoes and Papa John places succeed with their cardboard with ketchup on it pies when we are the mecca of pizza.

Yup. 11.5” is good to go also. 10.5” is good to go too, in my opinion. The only why reason Connecticut’s non-NFA (“other”) firearms have 12.5” barrels is because their AWB statute defines semi-autos with detachable magazines that are less than 30” in OAL as assault weapons. NJ does not have such a law, yet. (It is one of the laws Murphy is trying to pass.) What this means though is that you can have a shorter barrel, as long as the firearm is is 26” OAL. Now I must mention that there is some debate and controversy on how to properly measure OAL. Some people feel it is safer to measure from buffer tube. Some measure from the brace in the extended most position, and I believe this is the correct way. The ATF has always extended the brace (as well as stocks) when taking measurements of firearms. The Franklin Armory XO-26 letter I posted in this thread earlier says to extend and measure from the rearmost position. There is also another email from the ATF, explicitly instructing to extend the brace when measuring. This matters because if you want a 10.5” barrel, following their way is good to go. But If you want to play it safe and measure from buffer tube for whatever reason, 10.5” will be just shy of 26” unless you pin the muzzle device. Another thing I wanted to mention, because these are firearms and not rifles, pistols, or shotguns, they do not follow AWB’s. So flash hiders are good to go.

Pistol optics are a crutch - learn how to shoot with iron sights first. Subsonic ammo will still be loud without a suppressor. Especially indoors. I've got 9mm 147gr that's subsonic at about 950FPS or so - you still need hearing protection. That being said - there are MOS (Modular Optics System) versions of Glocks available very easily, vs a Beretta... It's a lot easier to mount an optic plate on a square piece of metal... lol.

Local manufacturer has been working on one of these for a while. Looks like they have the OK to start manufacturing and selling these. I believe it’s a little shorter than the Troy and Dark Storm offering and these will be built around Ballistic Advantage barrels.

@Mrs. Peel.that Herter's is a unique press. The only issue is that Herters used a proprietary shellholder which may be next to impossible to find. BUT...RCBS made an adapter for it to use standard shellholders. Don't know if they still do and you'd probably have to order it direct from RCBS. The Lyman manual you have will do just fine. Contact me if you want more of my 2 cents. I might have some other stuff to help get you started.

In our state, certain high crime neighborhoods don't want to take personal responsibility for their high levels of crime, so the politicians keep humoring them by "fixing" the problem by outlawing guns, one component at a time.
  19. 1 point
Since you're new, shoot whatever you can get your hands on. You can get 10 round mags for pretty much everything. Obviously you're gonna get a lot of muzzle blast with a hotter round, like a .357 magnum vs a 9mm. The minimum caliber you should be going for is 9mm. There's tons out there - try them all and see what you like best. Don't worry about the noise - it's gonna be loud no matter what. Your ears will ring if you shoot even a .22LR inside the house without hearing protection. The number 1 criteria should be: "can I shoot this gun well?"

Allright I almost never post or even look at all the non gun talk threads on here but since it's you tex and you hooked me up with that awesome brisket I'll tell you about some amazing pizza that's really not a pizza. It doesn't have sauce on it and no pizza kinda cheese, it has cheese like a breakfast sandwich. It's called the belly buster. It's got bacon, potatoes, ham, sausage, eggs and a ton of other stuff I'm forgetting. It's from a place called steak em ups in south Philly http://www.steakemup.com/ https://imgur.com/a/Qg7FTIm I'm also a huge fan of manco and mancos and macks in wildwood, but I hate the people on the wildwood Boardwalk.

House of pizza best pizza I ever had used to go once a week with my dad. Not just the pizza their deep fried calzones were to die for. Was very upset when they closed. For a time i lived in Staten Island right around the corner from Joe and Pats awesome thin crust pizza but not in the top 5.. Totonos in Coney Island on Neptune ave is as old school Brooklyn pizza there is, that is if you could get in the place its very small and only open Friday , sat and sun. He closed on sun when he ran out of dough. Patsy's in Brooklyn is famous and deserves the title but you have to eat it there.

With Friends Like These, Who Needs Democrats? By L. Neil Smith. June 15th, 2019. ([email protected]) PATREON:https://www.patreon.com/lneilsmith Attributed to L.Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise Rodney William Ansell was a widely-respected Australian cattleman, hunter, and outbacker, most famous for his survival skills under harsh conditions, who served as the model for the movie character "Crocodile Dundee". His business and his family were destroyed by trendy environmentalist legislation. In 1999, resisting a series of new victim disarmament (gun control) laws and other statist incursions into his life, he was savagely murdered by the police, whereupon all sorts of transparently phony charges and accusations were heaped against him by the government and media to defame him when he could no longer defend himself. Running for the highest office in the land, Donald Trump famously promised all of us "deplorables" out here in Flyover Country that he'd protect our rights under the Second Amendment. He mentioned it at every rally, to the enthusiastic cheers of tens of thousands. The sad truth, however, is that the man is a golfer, not a shooter, even if he is rumored to carry a concealed weapon himself. The first time he encountered any political pressure on the issue at all, he folded like a filling-station roadmap. Following a suspiciously spectacular mass-shooting in Las Vegas that we have still not heard a single word of truth about, he single-handedly banned so-called "bump stocks" by Imperial presidential decree. Bump stocks are an aftermarket device that allows a semi-automatic rifle to fire rapidly as if it were fully automatic, and were said to have been used by the Las Vegas shooter. Not that we have any reason to believe what we've been told. Like many another lifelong weapons "expert" (I am a retired ballistician), I have no use for bump stocks, myself, which destroy accuracy and achieve no useful effect. For that reason, the bad-guys are counting on me and my kind not to defend their ownership and use. But -- (a) not only was this an "illegal taking" under the Fifth Amendment, costing manufacturers, retailers, and gun owners millions of dollars, without compensation, (b) not only does it defeat the entire purpose for which the Second Amendment was written -- to defend liberty from the government, which has no lawful business knowing what weapons or accessories we possess, buy, sell, or trade, or telling Americans what is, or is not, acceptable in this context, (c) not only does it it violate a tacit understanding (now null and void) in operation since the 1930s to the effect that, if "We The People" let the feds outlaw certain kinds of weapons, they will otherwise leave us the hell alone ... (d) it makes me worry for the first time about this administration's real agenda with regard to the Bill of Rights. Strike One, Mr. President. Following that Las Vegas event and other pathetically contrived and staged outrages, a series of "red flag laws" began passing in the states, where, it is falsely claimed, the Bill of Rights somehow applies less than at the federal level. These laws allow the authorities to smash into your home and seize your guns, on nothing more than the unsubstantiated whining of some relative or neighbor. This is not only another violation of the Takings Clause (they claim you'll get your weapons back, good as new, in a few weeks, but this is entirely inconsistent with my experiences with cops, property rooms, and seized weapons), it is a blatant violation of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, Sections 241 and 242, which forbid the contravention of your rights "under color of law" and set forth penalties for those officials found guilty of it. The even worse news is that certain politicians, including the perfidious Lindsey Graham, are collaborating with Democrats to write more red flag laws at the federal level, and the Trump Administration has done nothing to discourage it. These laws are the very essence and definition of a police state, and they have already allowed one old man in Maryland, who made a stand, defending his rights, to be murdered, like Rod Ansell, the real Crocodile Dundee, by the cops. Strike Two, Mr. President. Lately there have been rumblings that Trump is contemplating a godlike prohibition against suppressors (what the ignorant and butt-stupid media call "silencers"), simply because the accused perpetrator of the most recent politically useful atrocity had one screwed onto the end of one of his pistols. If you remember nothing else from this essay, remember this: _the left always claims that the only way to deal with a crime is to severely punish everyone who didn't commit it. This is insanity; Trump clearly has enemies at his side, giving him very, very bad advice. Lindsey Graham is a snake. Strike Three, Mr. President. Now contemplate, if you will, what comes next. These are not prescriptions; I don't want them to happen. I like Donald and his family; I think he's the best president we've had in over a century. Certainly in my lifetime. They are predictions of an inevitable, dismal future unless changes get made right away. It's what I do for a living and I'm very good at it. Gun owners have always been used by Republicans exactly the same way that Democrats have always used blacks: they're pretty nice to have around during an election, otherwise, fuck 'em. I actually heard a famous Republican back in the 1970s ask, "Who else are they gonna vote for?", "they" being you and me. The answer today, in the twenty-first century, is nobody. Gun people got Trump elected. If those people stay home, next time, if they "walk away" from the Republican Party, Trump will fail in 2020 and America will have lost its last chance to remain a free country. If you wake up, the morning after election day, and Elizabeth "Fauxcahontas" Warren, Kamala Harris who began her career humping Willy Brown's leg, Beta O'Rourke, or some other member of the Democrat Zoo Parade is defecating in the Oval Office, you can thank the anti-gun crowd, the Rinos, and other weak-kneed and treacherous Republicanoids. What. if anything, can be done to fix this mess? Write to freedom-oriented politicians (yes, I know it sounds like an oxymoron). Paper letters work best, but anything helps. Do not be particularly respectful. They don't deserve it and Contempt of Congress, they tell us themselves, is the order of the day. Tell them that you're sick and tired tired of being used. Tell them that they must rescind the bump-stock ban at once and indemnify former owners, using the funds, frozen under Title 18, of anti-Constitutional specimens like George Soros, Tom Steyr, Michael Bloomberg, and Bill Gates. They must use federal law as President Eisenhower did in Little Rock in the 1950s to abolish red flag laws wherever they have sprouted, and jail those politicians, bureaucrats, and cops who introduced, sponsored, voted for, passed, or enforced them. As a token of good faith, they must fully legalize suppressors and fully-automatic weapons immediately. They must eliminate gun-free (meaning Bill of Rights-free) zones, if only for the sake of public safety. Constitutional rights are not privileges or luxuries, to be brushed aside at political whim, but dire necessities, as the Second Amendment itself declares, for a free republic. They must formally and thoroughly investigate infamous false flag shootings going back to Charles Whitman in 1966. Further (but not very far) down the road, they must break up California by county and allow blue counties to determine their own fate. Finally, they must separate New York City from the rest of that state, and demote it to territorial status with a Governor appointed by the President so it can't do any more harm. And let the President know his administration is on probation. ************************ Award-winning novelist and essayist L. Neil Smith is a retired gunsmith, Publisher and Senior Columnist of L. I'm following your thread with great interest, @Greenday. I'm in a similar spot, except I really lucked out in that my uncle is giving me an extra reloading press he had laying around, so that not only saved me some bucks but it also saved me from a painful purchasing decision process, lol. Someone gave it to him years ago, so he's "paying it forward" to ME! Woo-hoo! It's an old, vintage Herter's Model Super 81- seems to be in good shape - no rust, nothing broken - and it has (2) rams instead of one, which is kind of unique. He also gave me the Lyman book - last year's edition, but new in the shrink wrap. So now I have to focus on reading, learning, buying the other gear I'll need... and getting started. [BTW, I do NOT want to hijack Greenday's thread(!)… but if anyone reading this happens to have an older Herter's operations manual that covers the Model Super 81, would you kindly PM me directly, pls? I'd love to get a scan or hardcopy if possible.] I've been watching YouTube videos about reloading as a starting place, but I'll definitely purchase that ABC's book that @GRIZ recommended. So, I'm on a very similar journey to the one you're on. And I've enjoyed watching your progress, too... I think you're doing just GREAT with your marksmanship!

Meh I'm not sure you need everything to get started. There may be a good case for NOT getting everything up front so you can get a view of what's working and what's not, then aquire intelligently. Starting out, your skill is going to be the biggest limiting factor, not the gear.

I saw that today, apparently Reuters has been listening (incorrectly) to that Swalwell dude.... ...."Two months ago, Reuters breathlessly reported, “New Zealand police expect tens of thousands of firearms to be surrendered by a guns buy-back scheme.” Law enforcement authorities averred that “it could be more.” Pregnant with the expectation that gun owners would trade their firearms for cash, the political class is nonplussed by the results. In reality, New Zealand is quite heavily armed per capita, with an estimated 1.2-1.5 million guns in a country of approximately 4.7 million people. Only 530 guns have thus far been turned in to the authorities."

Keep in mind, the Glock 43, 48 and other smaller Glocks do not shoot as nicely as the larger 19 and 17. Now that essentially every Glock in NJ is neutered by mags, your choice between 17 and 19. As others mentioned, the 19 was the most popular as it shot native 15 round mags. Now that NJ is 10, I suspect more will be shooting the 17. The Glock 34 is a GREAT gun, soft shooting and almost match ready. Long frame Glock 17. For me, a Glock is a home defense gun because it is reliable and is essentially a throw away. Others may disagree, but essentially a Glock has no collector's value.... the original tupperware boxes are more collectible. lol. So God forbid I have to use it and it gets taken for some time, I won't miss it.... it's a Glock. I joke about it as a Toyota corolla of the gun world. It's not the most fun and you wouldn't want to be caught dead driving one... but it is stupid reliable and works when you need to. (as long as you don't go crazy modifying it, etc.)

"The New Jersey State Police Firearms Unit finds that the submitted Troy Industries A4 "other firearm" as well as the Dark Storm Industries DS-15 Non-NFA Firearm Typhoon are legal for sale in the State of New Jersey and are NOT considered to be an "assault firearm." This opinion is based upon the two firearms reviewed, however if the design or dimensions change from those samples, it may change the classification of the firearm.
