Hello from Burlington City, N.J.

Recommended Posts

Hello to the community! I'm A Born and raised North Jerseyan, now in Burlington County. I managed a few years in the U.S.Army Signal Corps during the Reagan era, and, though I did move on, managed to shoot "Expert" with a well worn M16A1. I did think enough of the service to go and purchase an AR15A2 style Bushmaster, primarily as a memory/keepsake kind of thing. Got it at the Bullet Hole some 6 or 7 years back. Like that place!

My employment situation (long hours, 7 days a week) has not allowed me much hobby time in years. I do not get out to shoot or hunt very much...but...have a pair of S&W Mod 28(s), some Swedish Mausers, a couple of hunting shotguns (870 and 500) and still have my first ever gun: a 10/22 bought used at Ray's back about 1980. (also just bought a fresh one from the new Cheyenne Mountain Outfitters.)

I'm an "issue by issue" type of guy with some unconventional views here or there. not solidly conservative or liberal, but, very pro gun owner rights, very glad to be from the U.S.A., and hope I will find a niche here as a part of this community. Thanks!

Many thanks for the robust welcome!

There were also 2 questions asked so let me get those answered;

...bbk..."Hello and welcome! What did you do in the Signal Corps?"...

I was just a basic enlisted support troop: MOS 31J10 "Teletype Repairer". They also let me work on FM transceivers and audio gear because I had a "Ham Radio" license and a basic industrial electronics background. I served mostly stateside in a "REFORGER" unit, but, had some time in Germany too. Just enough to get that foreign service ribbon.

...yazamitaz..."...Do you ever shoot at Fort Dix?"...

I guess I did not know for sure that I could! Fill me in? Thanks!

...

Let me end with some good news: I've been helping out a neighbor who showed interest in getting his hunting license. He got it today! We went down to the "Soprano's" pizza place on Rt 130 and had a big meal to celebrate. We will be going for squirrel and rabbit during November.

There is a shooting range in Fort Dix called range 14 on Range Road. It is only open a couple of days a week and on the weekends but it is cheap to join ($60.00 a year and $3.00 to shoot) and has a pretty nice set up. Many of the people on the board belong. Here is a ling to their site with more information. http://www.shootnj.com/ftdixdirect.html

Thanks for the range info, That will be on

this year's "to-do" list. Some ranges are

charging $20. a session nowadays so Ft. Dix

would be a money saver.

Well, I got my "student-hunter" out into

the field for the first few times and we

managed a few squirrels. We are not really

equipped for deer yet but did try some

"still hunting" ("from the ground" type hunting,

no stand). A stand or two is really

the way to go. Maybe next year for

that purchase.

He is handling the shotgun quite safely and

only needs to work on his patience. After

about 20 minutes he likes to chatter and

forgets that it spooks the game.
