RedBowTies88 41 Posted April 2, 2013 A friend of mine just had to wait 11 days to pick up his 1911. I'm limiting myself to private sales and out of state sales until this BS dies down. There is no way i'm paying for a gun then waiting 2 weeks to get it becuase of the state. They can kiss my butt. I feel bad for the in state merchants this hurts, but thats just how it is. Chances are the NICS check was lost. If you don't plan on going thru with the sale, you probably will forfeit your NICS fee and any other transfer fee if you paid up front. If you haven't paid the NICS check and do not intend to pay it, you probably don't want to show up at the FFL anymore. I would advise at least informing the FFL that you no longer want the item so they can free it up for another buyer and making the FFL whole with the FFL fees if it was not paid already. Just keep in mind, the minute the fax went thru, the FFL paid your NICS check whether it was lost or not.
Black Ops 1 Posted April 3, 2013 You should hear back today. 10 days seems to be the current number due to the holiday. BINGO - approval on day
Rysdad 5 Posted April 3, 2013 Day 7 today. I hate this miserable state!
Sludog 0 Posted April 3, 2013 FID and permits just came in today. Now I can buy something and wait two weeks like everyone else. :wild: I feel like I am part of the club now.
beachwhistle 28 Posted April 3, 2013 Saw Mark Kelley on Mike Wallace touting how his instant background check in AZ only took a little over 5 minutes. Why so long here?
anabolism 2 Posted April 3, 2013 Atlantic tactical sent in my NICS march 19th ....still waiting
Hare Trigger 0 Posted April 4, 2013 I was told by a friend that NJ has subbed out the NICS checks to the state of Florida. That would make sense since it takes so long for the check and the fact everything needs to be faxed.
PK90 3,570 Posted April 4, 2013 Champion Communications just the billing portion. The NJ NICS Unit still does the checks.
Leverhead 0 Posted April 12, 2013 Today makes 1 week for my Uberti 1873 rifle. My FFL says to expect 14 days.
Blacksmythe 71 Posted April 13, 2013 Went to my local shop got a crapy price and a bad attitude because I asked a lot of questions, left there drove 2 hours into PA got exactly what I wanted at the price it was supposed to cost, picked up 150 rounds of 12gauge 00, 200 rounds of 40 S&W, 100 rounds of 5.56 got a PICS done in 15mins. WTF is wrong with this picture?
Hare Trigger 0 Posted April 13, 2013 We are living in a communist state, if they slow us down enough maybe we will change our minds.......NOT! I have just gained more patience.
Black Ops 1 Posted April 15, 2013 The NICS wait times seem to be getting longer (> 10 days). I'm going to end up having to renew my last P2P. Has anyone had problems renewing P2Ps?
DargZ 5 Posted April 15, 2013 Not in Union. I was pretty worried as I read a post way back that they do not renew.
Leverhead 0 Posted April 22, 2013 2 weeks, 2 days, still waiting. It's now taken me longer for the NICS check than to get my ID card... which I guess I shouldn't complain about, considering how long it takes in some places to get an ID card.
Hare Trigger 0 Posted April 22, 2013 My NICS check started last Tuesday, they told me 12 to 20 days. At that rate I will definitely need to extend my third permit.
scohen2002 0 Posted April 22, 2013 My NICS check started last Tuesday, they told me 12 to 20 days. At that rate I will definitely need to extend my third permit. Mine went in last Tuesday at noon. Leverhead 0 Posted April 23, 2013 On the plus side, with this extra time I've been able to purchase a cleaning kit... bore snake... rifle case... range bag... ammunition...
wooly bugger 1 Posted April 23, 2013 But that's the main issue isn't it? We should not have to wait. There is nothing "instant" about NICS right now and it doesn't seem as though anything is being done about it. If everyone starts to accept this as the norm, then it will end up just like the FID process where 30 days is nothing more to most townships than a number. Even before all this started, MPC and friends introduced a bill to require federal NICS to be the only background check required to get an FID or P2P. Here's a quaint quote from the bill. "The NICS database is accessible by telephone or electronically via the Internet. In most instances, the information concerning a prospective purchaser’s eligibility to obtain a firearm is provided within 30 seconds." http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2012/Bills/A3000/2695_I1.HTM
Jack 0 Posted April 26, 2013 So 2 weeks for a NICS check. Any response from NJ State Police on what they are doing about it?
FLHX 1 Posted April 26, 2013 I was just down at SS and they said they have people out 24 days and other that come back in 12. He said that 12 days has been the fastest turnaround time. This is such bullshi* The State Police doesn't have to respond to anyone the are the law. I cannot believe that this is still just a backup from the amount of checks they are getting. 71ragtopgoat 23 Posted May 3, 2013 Just dropped my P2P off for my Sig. Last month for my M&P was nine days and I thought that was bad. I use a hardware store True Value in Lincoln park he's cost effective and does not do allot of transfers so there really is no waiting.
plode 0 Posted May 20, 2013 Finally got my pistol home. It took me 152 days to buy a pistol in NJ. (I already had a FID, applied for 3 P2P's and NICS).
