Whats your Charity?

Recommended Posts

Wounded Warriors... Seem to do the most than any other that I can tell... We've done charity runs, HOG events, etc...

Otherwise, any I can afford to give to as long as they are reputable...

Take a look at how little of each dollar donated actually goes to helping. WWP's overhead is bloated and disgusting.

Isn't WWP anti-2A? It's hard for me to speak out too loudly against an organization that helps veterans, but I'd rather do so through one that isn't anti-2A.

A good resource to get background on any charity is www.charitynavigator.org

If I'm reading this correctly, 58 cents out of every dollar actually helps a veteran at WWP

Compare to Fisher House Foundation where 95 cents out of every dollar goes to where it's intended

Yea, learned that not too long ago. But can't convince my hog group otherwise.

I've been mostly doing DAV and USO.... Don't do the rides anymore unless it's someplace I want to go. However, it's hard to trust any charity these days. Look at the bad rep Red Cross had there awhile ago.

Agreed. I used to donate to them monthly, but between this and the anti-gun issue, I send my money elsewhere.

I have and do support:

Fisher House

Stephen Siller's Tunnel to Towers - (Building for Americas Bravest) builds homes for triple and quadruple amputees

Luke's Wings

Navy Seal Foundation

Troops First

Independence Fund - Track chairs for troops

Troops Direct

USO

Opps! Forgot.... Them too.

speaking of forgot... The other I forgot to mention is the VFW. The VFW just did the calendars drive about a month ago and they always send out nice calendars.  IMO they are also worth donating too. The DAV, VFW and USO organizations have been around for a long time and hopefully they are guilty of waste like some of the others. I only donate to the above mentioned with the exception Red Cross if something is going on here in the US. All other solicitations go right into the shredder.  If I had Lotto money sure I’d open up the wallet a bit more but until then those are my main ones.

Wish this wasn't true and I didn't read it.  It is a disgrace how people can take advantage of a bad situation.

DAV has always been one of my charities.

Now the question is, which ones are truly doing the right thing?

For selfish reasons, my main charity (and Amazon Smile charity) is the That Others May Live Foundation.

Second is the USO (also somewhat selfish as I have benefited from them during my service time and my former First Sergeant is heavily involved in Liberty USO.)

and +1 for Fisher House, another great charity.
