I am happy everyone had a good time and am very sorry I missed it. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone. Stories of my estrogen replacement therapy were greatly exaggerated. I ended up getting promoted to LT at work. The promotion ceremony and swearing in was on Tuesday night. Unbeknownst to me, my little brother (who just retired from the Army and is a new Police Officer in Waynesville MO) flew in on Monday night to surprise me and to attend the swearing in. I am honored he thought to do this. He's a good brother, and I am very lucky. Unfortunatley his flight home was last night and I had to get him up to the airport.

The entire armor industry is black magic. The salesmen make used car dealers seem downright pious. It is important to know that not all armor can stop every threat. You need to do a realistic assessment of why you are most likely to come across threat wise - even in the same calibers. For example, ceramic armor will stop some things while others will whistle right through. Even in the same caliber. Rule of thumb - You armor has to stop the rounds that you and yours carry. After that its a caliber assessment of likely threats. Make friends with a cop. Find out what they are seeing in your area. Heavy (Rifle) armor has many options - ceramic, HDPE, Boron Carbide, Steel, Hybrid (HDPE and Ceramic). When buying you have 3 options, lightweight, affordable, effective. You get to pick two of the three. Avoid AR500 armor. I like the Hybrid. Stops a larger range of threats, both the fast lightweight rounds and the slow heavy stuff. The HDPE protects the ceramic and stops spall. It's lighter than pure ceramic and in the low end of the middle price wise. Soft armor is another story. I have been in charge of purchasing the concealable vests for my department for 10 years. In my opinion Point Blank currently has the best ballistics package out there in their IIIa vests since they bought Paraclete from MSA. That US Palm defender rig is nice too. Decent armor in a great "bump in the night" setup.

I am on it like a hobo on an ham sandwich. A regular M-F schedule and working day time hours for the first time in 15 years will let me facilitate a nice get together. And as always, thanks Peel! ETA: I just saw the 1A thread. Funny stuff. https://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/87394-why-high-exposure-did-not-make-the-meetup-excuses-thread/#comment-1123733 I'm still not getting notifications for any posts/likes/following in the 1A section.

It's the G17 was top in sales world wide, G19 for the US. They're market share has been in a free fall though, because they refuse to admit that they're being passed left and right. That's why they had the tantrum after losing out to the P320, they desperately needed the sales. But go ahead and delude yourself, thinking others haven't even caught up yet. You'd fit right in at the Glock corporate office.

Great meet up. Issues were discussed, rounds were bought, much accomplished. Remember many of the issues confronting our Founding Fathers were settled over libations in the taverns of Philadelphia. Zekeformod had the potential to become a national movement!

After I realized that my G19 is actually like shooting 2x4, I decided to buy something more ergonomic that I can use as range toy and as a go to gun for training. So I got my permits and went to RTSP to try a few guns. Here is what I had on my short list (no particular order) : S&W m&p 9 5" (rtsp only had 4") Springfield xdm 5.25" PPQ m2 5" (rtsp only had 4") CZ 75b here are my impressions: 1. They all light years ahead of G19 in terms of ergonomics, quite possibly M&P was the best one and aggressive grips are actually fine when shooting. 2. Accuracy 1: M&P and XDM are comparable to Glock, i would put them in the same category, with my limited experience they good until 10 yards. Past 15 yards, in my hands it doesn't look pretty. 3. Accuracy 2: CZ 75b and PPQ 4" are much more accurate, I got groups that never expected and rarely achieve with G19 no matter how much I train. 4. Triggers: they all are not bad. The M&Ps was surprisingly good. Also, I finally understand why people prize the PPQ, but it's scary light, so I'm not sure it would be good for non-controlled environments. You know what I mean CZ's trigger was good, somewhere between PPQ and M&P. I summary, by now you may have guessed my order of preference: 1.CZ 2. PPQ 3. M&P Finally, I decided to buy the CZ sp-01 if I can find it. Just wanted to share my opinion, it may help someone. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

The Costco in Bridgewater has the GunVault brand SpeedVault SV500 (with push button pad) for $99.99 - 40.00 instant coupon. Pretty good deal for $59.99 net. Costco, correctly, did NOT collect sales tax on this item.

So, Florida has been very good to me the last few months. Got a new job, making more money, got some things straightend out. So I decided to buy myself something nice. Something I've wanted for a while. I was kicking around the idea of building a 1911, but just couldn't see me finishing it in a timely fashion. So I bought a range officer instead! Finally took it out today after having for a few weeks and burned through 100 rounds of Winchester white box. And it went fast. First time shooting a 1911, or any 45 acp pistol. But I love it! It's accurate and very smooth. Once I got used to the sites, I was punching the 9 and 10 ring constantly. It's addicting. First pic is after I finished up for the day. Burned through 100 rounds of 9mm while I was out too, but a majority of that was done by the 1911. I'm hooked guys, I think I'm in trouble! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk

The claim is that tax funds aren't used; it's all funded by forfeiture funds seized from criminals. But yeah, the state spends a lot to seize those funds, and in my opinion they do tend to overuse the forfeiture statute at times

Larger Company means larger overhead and usually higher quote, but doesn't mean better job. If you are in Central Jersey and you want the job done right there is only one roofer to use. I can also tell you a large company not to use. Their nickname has the work SLOP in it and rhymes with their company name. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Yup, get a third estimate, throw out the one that's out of line from the other 2. I do this with most things now, but it's something I learned from a roofing contractor that I worked for (for 13-14 years) a long time ago.

Well, regardless of his excuse (wow, estrogen therapy? Who knew?)... it would seem appropriate for HE to nail down the details for some soon-to-occur celebratory "I Made LT" meetup, don't you think? HE? HE? Are you still there? What say you? I mean, there's no more "night shift" excuses, right? Perhaps it's time to morph into the expert party planner we all know you can be! Put all those leadership skills to good use. (Good Lord, Zeke's nudgery must be rubbing off on me -- I'm not sure I really like myself right now....). Oh, and Congrats!

Z-dog, if someone decides that some anonymous guy on the internet represents the thought process of all gun owners/2a community, they are so irretrievably moronic there is no hope for them. People like this spend all their time looking not for the truth, but for evidence that supports the views they already hold. I'll leave it at that so as to not drive this thread to 1a Lounge.

who does this really help out, I always thought LEOSA covered any sworn officer anyway? Am I missing something. Is this just feel good stuff, Why didn't anyone hear about this until now. Something seems fishy. seems like this might help out of state folks who might have been jacked up during a stop or something who were some level of law enforcement who might not have been covered by leosa?

My dachshund made 'friends' with this little guy yesterday. He was in my neighbors yard. My dog scooped up the little baby bunny in her mouth and immediately spit it out. She gave me a look like, 'that wasn't what I thought it was, dad'. I about hurt myself laughing at her. The bunny, while unharmed, was a little bit annoyed.

Through many years of service to the .mil, and having the requirements for the use of deadly force beaten into my head when I qualified to carry a weapon. Surprisingly, I can still recite the deadly force mantra from memory, after all these years.... Deadly force is the force a person uses, which he/she knows, or should know, presents the risk of causing death or serious bodily harm. Its use is only justified under conditions of extreme circumstance, when all lesser means have failed or cannot reasonably be employed. The Navy had specific conditions where it could be employed, including to prevent death or serious bodily harm to yourself or others, and to protect vital govt property, among other things...after all lesser means failed or could not reasonably be employed, of course. I think the same goes for an individual...to protect your life and the lives of others, when ALL lesser means fail or cannot reasonably be employed. I don't belive protecting property falls under this. No one needs to die for stealing a fucking TV or a Blue Ray player. While I don't know the whole story of this situation...If someone breaks into your home, armed, with a baseball bat, knife, a firearm, or even bare hands, then I have to conclude they are there to hurt me or my family. No time to stop and ask them their intentions, I have a duty to protect myself and my family, so I will stop the threat using the appropriate level of force. Period. Should that mean that the perp gets shot and killed, so be it. Honestly, I look at it like putting down a coyote that is hunting my livestock. Not a particularly pleasant thing to do, but something that must be done. I won't bring the fight to anyone, but if someone brings it to my door, I will use the appropriate force required to protect myself and my family. I think the WORST part would be the investigation afterwards. That I can see losing sleep over. Must be a horrible experience having your actions evicerated, when all you were trying to do was protect your family. Unfortunately NJ law gives the criminal more rights than the victims. HE mentioned the 'euphoria' one experiences after an encounter. I guess it's different for everyone...here is my little sea story, where i had a close call with using deadly force. My submarine was tied to the pier at Chin He, South Korea at the ROK Marine base, this was mid 1990's. I was the topside watch, armed with a .45. There was a pier sentry armed with a shotgun, and a watch in the sail of the boat armed with an M-16. My pier sentry started shouting 'swimmer in the water' and pointing his weapon at a man swimming near the aft end of the boat. I alerted the crew of the swimmer over the 1MC, drew my weapon, and ran towards the stern shouting at this guy to get out of the water. He climbed up on the boat near the stern planes and onto the hull. He had a big knife and some gear on his waistband, and his hands up. He had no idea what I was saying, but my yelling at him and a .45 pointed at his head got the message across loud and clear. My weapon was hammer back with the safety off, and pointed at this guys head from like 10 feet. The duty officer and the onboard crew rushed up behind me, then put him face down and restrained him until the ROK Marines showed up and took him away. I understand they used some pretty aggressive methods to find out why he was there. Turns out he was an oyster diver who decided it would be a good idea to fish near the Marine base. Turned out NOT to be such a good idea for him. After the incident, all 3 of us were relieved of the watch, and we were all interviewed/counseled about the incident by the Weapons Officer (he was the duty officer that day), and the XO. The pier sentry was pretty worked up, and nearly dropped his weapon in the water as he pointed it at the swimmer. He was pretty shaken up having to point his weapon at someone. I remember being forceful, but totally in control and aware of myself and what was going on around me. I was hoarse after yelling. A little surreal. I was not 'eager' to hurt this guy, but I would have used deadly force on this guy had the situation required it. I remember reciting the mantra in my head while my weapon was drawn. Weird. We had divers down all the rest of the day checking every inch of the hull for a device he may have planted. Explosive, tracking, whatever. It was an 'interesting' day to say the least.

I see no difference between these two types of scumbag. Anyone who breaks into someone's house while the resident is home deserves to be shot, for the simple reason that whether they are armed or not, a teen or a career criminal, they know they often must harm whoever is home to get away with their crap. A part of me rejoices, therefore, when I read about such shootings, and my heart sinks when I hear the perp survived. That is not the point of this discussion, however. I don't know your personal history, if you did 7 tours in Afghanistan or just watch a lot of Charles Bronson movies. I do know that stronger men than you, fighting for causes as noble as your dream scenario of shooting a burglar, have been deeply affected by having to kill other members of the Homo sapiens tribe. The mods for this forum are good, fair-minded guys. They've let me slide a few times for using dicey language outside of the 1A Lounge. But they (and all of us) should take note that comments like yours reflect much worse on our gun culture than any 4 letter word, any slur of gays or blacks, any disparaging reference to a particular scumbag who happens to have been a NJ U.S. Senator.

I always check our propane grill before lighting it up. We've had at least three mouse nests in there over the last 10 years. Fortunately there were never any babies in it, so I could just clean it out and send the adults on their way. Full disclosure: if they get into my house or garage they're dead.

I don't use hemos or needle nose. I have small fingers. I hold the detent in my fingers and smash it in with the razor blade. Then install the take downpin.
  47. 1 point
So easy...insert the spring hold the end of the detent w/ hemostats, insert, hold in with razor blade slide in take down pin.
  48. 1 point
BS I used a slave pin the other day for kicks and giggles and sailed the detent. I'll continue to razor blade.
