NicePants 58 Posted October 26, 2010 So, I got my FPID card from the Paterson PD about a month ago. The thing is pretty damn flimsy and I'd like to get it laminated. I asked my uncle about it (works as a detective in the PD) and he told me not to. Is there any reason I shouldn't get it laminated?

Not suppose to do that either. Once they make replacements quick, easy, and free, I'll stop laminating them.
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted October 26, 2010 I laminated mine. I went to staples - they used a luggage tag sized one....

KpdPipes 388 Posted October 26, 2010 My PD actually did it for me when I picked it up. We always did..I THINK they still do. I'll have to check with the BCI Det when I see him
StephanieSeven 70 Posted October 26, 2010 My PD actually did it for me when I picked it up. Now that you say this, I think my old town (Aberdeen) did for me as well. Holmdel didn't though.
vjf915 456 Posted October 26, 2010 My town did not laminate mine, I went straight from picking it up at the PD to Staples to have it laminated. Gone through several transactions, and not one problem. As stated before....once these cards are easy and cheap to replace, I MAY consider not having them laminated.
dajonga 397 Posted October 26, 2010 Berkeley Township Police laminated mine before they handed it over to me.

PeteF 1,044 Posted October 26, 2010 I laminated mine. I went to staples - they used a luggage tag sized one.... +1 it only costs ~1 buck and it gives it a lot of protection from the wallet.
Urban Grunt 44 Posted October 26, 2010 I got mine done for free at Staples. Free because the laminating machine failed with my card inside!!! It took 20 mins to free the card without chewing it up......that was a long long 20 mins.
hopper 36 Posted October 27, 2010 My PD dept told me it was fine to laminate and also trim the sides so it would fit in my wallet correctly !!!!
Babaganoosh 192 Posted October 27, 2010 The detective told me that I should go get it laminated.

Fishpaw 17 Posted October 27, 2010 I asked my uncle about it (works as a detective in the PD) and he told me not to. Is there any reason I shouldn't get it laminated? Seems like a question for your confused uncle....did he give any reason for his bad answer?

Lunicy 4 Posted October 27, 2010 my old town told me not to as well. No explanation. I did promptly have it laminated anyway. My new town suggested I get it laminated. Probably not a law or SOP, most likely some cop wives tale that it's not allowed. Mine has always been laminated, SS card as well. Never had any problems

1563621 388 Posted October 28, 2010 Berkeley did mine for me. I guess they felt guilty after a 6 month wait for a replacement.
tommy3rd 132 Posted November 6, 2010 The detective at my town told me he doesn't think it would be a problem, however, he said he wouldn't be surprised if there was some stupid law written somewhere that you can't laminate it (just like the first line on the back of the SS card).
