hardlife_nef 1 Posted March 7, 2013 Have you not been paying attention for the past 3 months? Ive been focused on what I could do to help fight the slew of new proposed antigun laws, so no I havent been up on the nics delays. Didnt think the press would be so much from NJ with its limited amount of fid owners as compared to people that live in free America. So is NJ or the feds the hold up. East Brunswick Sportsman 4 Posted March 7, 2013 NJ hold up. All checks are faxed in. Return time is between 4 and 10 business days without any rhyme or reason.
blksheep 466 Posted March 7, 2013 I had mine done in 3 days early last month.
Frank Rizzo 59 Posted March 7, 2013 Submitted Wednesday morning last week, just cleared on Tuesday the 5th. Month ago took 3 days.
scohen2002 0 Posted March 7, 2013 3 to 5 days is common the past few months in NJ. I just got my permit Tuesday after a 7 week wait for that and went to the store and they submitted the check and now i am waiting. I expect friday, saturday, or monday it will come back and i can finally have the gun i paid for 7 weeks ago?!?!?

when_shtf 4 Posted March 7, 2013 Two months ago I waited 2 days. Last month I waited 4 days. This month I waited 10 days. If you're buying a handgun you'll have to put up with NJ NICS (Not Instant Check System). If you're buying a rifle, do yourself a favor and travel to PA. PICS is still a "while you wait" deal. dslar 0 Posted March 7, 2013 Just bought a mosin this last week, 7 days on the check. Waiting for my mauser one to come back now, on day 5 today.
9X19 125 Posted March 8, 2013 I had mine done in 3 days early last month. that was true last month..this month is a whole different animal. How long before 6-10 days becomes 30??
Sludog 0 Posted March 8, 2013 I was at Shore Shot in Lakewood today and saw two handgun sales and one shotgun sale. All were told NICS would take 7-10 days. Buyers were pissed.
ifjpm 0 Posted March 8, 2013 As of yesterday the NJ State NICS checks were 1700 checks behind. Its taking at least 7 days. But everyday it keeps increasing by one day because the back log keeps getting larger. No end in sight.
matyb123 0 Posted March 8, 2013 waited 9 days a couple weeks ago...

It just shows you that they are delaying this because they can. There is less gun sales now because nothing is available. .. its bs... i think the delays now are because now its a common practice. SlipperyPete 0 Posted March 8, 2013 Wonder how long it actually takes for them to complete one, what is truly invloved in the process, how many people they have completing them, and what the "real" hours of operation are?
T Bill 649 Posted March 8, 2013 I have heard, but cannot confirm, there are three people processing the paperwork on a six day a week schedule. Don't know the daily working hours. Recently they worked OT on a Sunday to try and catch up.
reloaderguy 30 Posted March 8, 2013 The state is deliberately taking this amount of time to process the paperwork to slow down the sales! There are not enough gun shops in this state to justify the delays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you go to a PA gun show you are done in under an hour and there are far more gun shows and shops there. SlipperyPete 0 Posted March 8, 2013 I am sorry. Just like all the time it is taking to process FID's and P2P's this is nonsense. Some towns are getting the ID's in 6 weeks and others are and have been going on for months. It is a poorly put together process and poorly managed IMO. imola 0 Posted March 8, 2013 read a good article explain the whole NICS delay that we are facing. it's outsourced to 3rd party with antiquated technology and limited resources, combined with panic purchasing, that's why we are where we are.
DSD1026 48 Posted March 8, 2013 NICS for our shottie submitted on Saturday (3/2).. still no word back yet.. so this going on 6 days.. was hoping to pick it up tomorrow.. maybe it will come in today..
