NJDrew1 0 Posted August 21, 2013 I was at CJRPC yesterday afternoon and man, was it quiet. Me and one other guy on the general purpose range. A guy, who just joined the club and got his credentials at the last meeting came, with his 2 kids, to fire a new rifle he purchased. Being the diligent parent he is, since he was storing the rifle in a soft-sided rifle bag at home, he had removed the bolt to keep the rifle safe. Afteer setting up his targets (in the beautiful new stand he built), we set the range hot and he loaded his magazines but then realized he didn't bring the bolt. Luckily enough, he also brought a handgun to fire in the pits. It did give us the opportunity to talk and answer a few questions he had as a new member. Urban Grunt 44 Posted August 21, 2013 I've done that also but I lived 5 mins from the range . I store all my rifles with bolt out.

Lalo 13 Posted August 21, 2013 Worse I've done was forgot to bring mags for a pistol I brought. Luckily though, I had other firearms to shoot. Now I double/triple check everything before I leave.
Jon 264 Posted August 21, 2013 I forgot mags once I did this. Jared was there that day, so at least I got to shoot something.
mikeyjones 88 Posted August 21, 2013 I forgot mags once Because I did this once, I now keep 2 mags for each pistol in my range bag.
ChrisJM981 924 Posted August 21, 2013 Worse I've done was forgot to bring mags for a pistol I brought. Luckily though, I had other firearms to shoot. Now I double/triple check everything before I leave. I forgot my mags for a few pistols I wanted to shoot. I then realized when I got home that they were actually in my range bag. Why do you take out a charging handle? No safe?
sosa9999 5 Posted August 21, 2013 went to zero in my 22lr bolt rifle and forgot my mags. range is a hour away so I loaded each round one by one. Every time we had to stop firing, range officer made sure to ask me if i took out my mag.
dtown223 12 Posted August 21, 2013 Brought a rifle to sight in at CR one time. Did not, however, bring my spotting scope Turned into a "function test" trip...

sure shot 0 Posted August 21, 2013 I forgot the key to my ammo box once. Luckily it was a plastic bin and I cut the lock hole with my pocket knife anyhow. Guess there was no point to locking it :icon_neutral:

Vlad G 345 Posted August 21, 2013 Why do you take out a charging handle? No safe? I had stripped the gun at home right before heading to the range (I don't remember why I stripped it that time) and I was in a rush to get to the range because I only had so much time. When I assembled it, I was in such a rush I simply forgot the charging handle.
Kingsoverqueens 10 Posted August 21, 2013 I forgot my shell pouch recently. Had to shoot a round of trap and put the hulls in my cargo pants pocket. lol Broke 22. I should leave it at home more often.
Brian B 2 Posted August 24, 2013 I forgot mags, competition belt and ammo. I even forgot to bring the gun and turned around and drove from 5 minutes from the range all the way home and then back. Each of these were on days that followed long nights at work.
NJKen 23 Posted August 25, 2013 I forgot the mags once. I also grabbed the wrong rifle a few times. That would not be such a big problem but I did grab the rite ammo....for the rifle that was home. Ken
mcbethr 42 Posted August 26, 2013 I forgot mags once Always keep 1 magazine for every gun you own in your range bag. Ask me how I know this...
djg0770 481 Posted August 26, 2013 Always keep 1 magazine for every gun you own in your range bag. Ask me how I know this... That was my solution since. My other solution is to always bring more than one gun to the range...

Golf battery 1,223 Posted September 1, 2013 Also how many times have we forgotten the spotting scope ? I need to make a checklist. Weapons. Ammo. Spotting scope. Mags (nj legal) eye and ear. Fid card. Targets. Stickies. Clp. And so on.
blksheep 466 Posted September 1, 2013 I was there this evening and thought I left my tape for my targets. I had it.
Clintoon Eastwood 2 Posted September 1, 2013 Is it really necessary to take out the bolt? Serious question. Soft case I understand so ok take out the bolt because of kids around, but what I see is a bigger problem. What about a safe? Ammo in an ammo can, rifle in the safe, having kids no a problem. I have kids and I don't take my bolts out. Guns and ammo are locked up separately. Not to mention, what would you do with your AR??

RecessedFilter 222 Posted September 1, 2013 I forgot my stapler and staples once and that is your whole range session right there at Easton. I ended up being pissed off and, as gross as it sounds, ended up using chewing gum I had sitting around in my truck. It didn't work great but was tacky enough to hold a few targets up for an hour of pistol shooting. And no, no one else was on the range to let me borrow their stapler or tape or anything.
