Hello EVERYONE! I'm the Vice President of NJ's busiest Second Amendment Organization, the Coalition of NJ Firearm Owners. As such I'm one of the current Experts on this forum in the correct English interpretation of written laws as they apply to guns in NJ. I stay up at night thinking about what's ACTUALLY WRITTEN and endeavor to use common sense from 1975 HS classes . Most of you already figured-out the "go-around" to solve the OP's question, so here's some additional "food for thought"... Nowhere in the NJ gun law does it say a gun owner can't have multiple residences. If you had (5) and used them at different times of the year, they'd all still be one of your residences! If you have some of YER STUFF at a former primary residence, and you still have a key to the door to get in, then this primary residence has become a secondary or tertiary residence. Ownership of the dwelling you "flop" at is NOT required for it to be a "residence". Merely your DNA has to be there from sleeping there, toilet, shower, etc. So a bedroom at Mommy and Daddy's house (or for that matter a friend's house or apartment that you have access to) that still has all or some of your SH!T in it classifies as a residence if you "flop" there every once and a while (as is the case with college kids). And further, your 18 yr old kid can leave his EVIL BLACK AR-15 rifle in his closet, LOADED, at this residence. No need for a safe, trigger lock or any other infringement since there's NO RULES other than securing firearms from minors and KNOWN adjudicated "Prohibited Persons". So Mom and Dad can throw a surprise POT Party and you're not gonna get yer a$$ locked-up for an "illegal transfer", lol! Nowhere in the gun law does it say you need to put a permanent, full-time, secondary or even temporary, or otherwise "timed-stay" residence on a firearms application. It just says "residence" w/o regard to number of weeks, days or hours per year you live at that residence! There are lots of Krieghoff-owning multi-millionaire sportsmen that own multiple residences and store their collections (long guns AND hand guns) spread-out among these multiple residences. So a house in the mountains can have a hand gun and the house "Down-the-Shore" can have a hand gun too, and guess what, NEITHER OF THEM HAVE TO BE REGISTERED! How is THAT you ask? Because if you're in your fifties as I am and already buried both parents and grew-up with firearms you have hand guns WILLED TO YOU w/o ANY paperwork . Best advice I can give is to STOP OVERTHINKING when it comes to NJ gun law. Read the EXEMPTIONS AND EXCEPTIONS (the "carve-outs" if you will), and don't ADD anything to the written word. E.G.: "Other land or property owned or possessed by him" means empty land parcels, property you have for sale, property you have a contract in-place to sell (that you still own before the closing), property that was deeded to you w/o a sale, property that was inherited, property that an estate owns and you're the Executor/Executrix of the estate prior to carving-up of the estate as per the will of the deceased (needn't even be a blood relative)! And guess what, not only can you own, store and transport firearms (hand guns included!) at OR to these land parcels, technically you can also patrol them with the possession of a loaded firearm (no carve-out for just long guns, so guess what, HAND GUNS ARE ALLOWED TOO)! Dating back to the 1600-1700's under the influence of English Law, NJ was a place where LAND OWNERS HAVE RIGHTS. Guess what, WE STILL DO! How else would it be legal for me to patrol a land parcel I own while ARMED if I can't legally transport said firearm to that parcel? (And there we go with that "FIREARM" word again, NOT a rifle or shotgun)! The application of common sense, together with understanding and APPLYING the correct application of punctuation will yield enlightenment. Read S - L -O - W - L -Y, "securely tied package, OR locked in the trunk of an automobile"... So I can wrap a hand gun with brown craft paper and bakery string and leave it on my front seat to take it somewhere to go sell it, get it fixed or get it appraised so long as its' an EXEMPT location: FFL, Gunsmith, Appraiser (for that estate sale), or a complete stranger meets me at my local clubs' indoor range at 3 AM.........

I'm curious Sackballions, what is the genesis of the idea that the government must know everything about who has what guns? What is it that you think this solves? This isn't TV "We found a gun, it's registered to "S Holmes, 221B Baker Street". In every case where governments installed these huge databases tracking every gun, they were useless in solving crime. Also, ballistic profiling of firearms is fairly useless as it changes over time and it is almost never conclusive. This tracking and checking however is PERFECT when a person or group falls out of favor and the government wants to disarm them. The government jack boots show up, point their guns, shoot the dog and confiscate the guns. You mention that you lived in Georgia and yet it scares you the people can pass guns back and forth with no government tracking? There are no checks there for private sales, never has been. In fact, most of the country is that way. NJ, NY, MD, CA are the exceptions. Overlay a map with gun regulation and crime...more regulation, more crime. they line up almost perfectly. I understand you want to learn to be safe and navigate the byzantine gun laws in NJ, and for that you're in the right place. You'll find however that states with less gun regulation are generally more safe and they also don't ensnare law abiding citizens in a crushing legal system.

Years ago I use to bust my wife's chops because she couldn't read smaller print and would ask me to read it for her. Past few years my vision has gotten worse and I now need reading glasses and nee to call one of my kids to read small print to me. Karmas a bitch. I've also developed gout (didn't know what it was initially) and could stand to lose 20-30 pounds as I sit behind a desk 8-10 hours a day in addition to about 3 hour round trip commute on train. Thought I would start a thread for members to share what health problems they've faced, what they've done to address, what doctors they would or would not recommend and if they were happy or regret doing what they did. All too often I think men don't like talking or discussing subjects such as this. Whether it be addressing our own mortality, concerns of being made fun / light of or an issue with our male pride that we aren't as healthy / good as we once were. So I thought by sharing some of our experiences in a somewhat anonymous manner perhaps we could help one another gain insight to what has worked and who has helped you with health issues. My gout, obviously eating healtier and excercing would help. I also take a prescription (anti-inflammatory) when have bad flare ups. For my vision I went to an eye doctor for first time in well over 30 years. Got reading glasses. Have considered lasik surgery as vision has gotten a little worse. Has anyone had lasik done? Are you happy with results, who did you use and would you rcommend them or do again if had to. Are you happy with results?

O.K. - To all the forum members reading this thread - I contacted the NJSP / FIU and they have apparently changed their stance on the "AK" stamping on frame. The last time I had received a ruling (in writing) was in 2015, and since the NJSP & AG's office have agreed (apparently) that it is o.k. to have a variation of AK (example: PSAK, HAK, ect.) as long as it is not solely stamped "AK-47" or AK-74". My apologies for any confusion.................

You can come up with a lot of scary scenarios and talk yourself out of anything. A few things that will never change: 1. Having a gun and not needing it is better than not having a gun and needing it. Can come up with plenty of scary scenarios because this statement is objectively true. NJ has impossible carry laws. This scares me. 2. You can make all the rules you want, but those rules will not get followed by the people in all the scary scenarios you come up with. It'll just make it harder for you, me, and everyone else who actually follows the rules. This scares me. And every night I watch the news in NJ, there's some crazy person who does something horrible to an innocent, unsuspecting person who was just going about their daily routine living their daily life. This scares the f&@k out of me. All we can do is hope that none of us or our loved ones are the targets of these random acts of violence. I'm not trying to say anything negative about law enforcement, but we can't carry a cop around with us.

Glad to see your getting on track. Keep us posted. It is a 44 mag so it has to be able to fire magnum loads safely, so it is designed to do so. problem is most magnum loads come up short. As a reloader you learn how to assemble quality ammo for such a firearm. bullet design also comes into play the XTP is probably the best round for entry of the DE i have over the years found many FMJ bullets that work well. Soft points just do not work they do not hold up under the stress foul and cause jams. it is a learning process once you have that down it will be very fun to shoot.

Again Dave is 100% correct by the letter of the law. Problem is many FFLs don't follow the letter of the law and they DEMAND a driver's licence with an address that matches your FID card and will not sell to you without it. I once tried to use my US Passport Card which has my photo and I was refused and they demanded a driver's licence. Heck we all know there are many FFLs that will demand your FID just to take a gun out of the display case (not required) and others that even demand to see a P2P before taking a gun out.

SJSPs work great in the .357 though I suspect because it gets up nice and high on the feed ramp(s). It does tend to need full zorch loads though given the gas operated design with a lot of spring behind it. Given the mass at work, anything stove piped tends to get mangled, SJSP or not.

I eat very cleanly. There is no substitute for a good diet even if you don't work out. There's an old saying, "abs are made in the kitchen." I have a long commute to NYC by car everyday but go to crossfit 5 days per week. I used to just go to the gym and lift, got way to bulky and started to get a lot of orthopedic injuries. I'm not advocating you go do crossfit, I'm not one of those religious zealots, but I recommend you first get your diet right by writing down everything, everything I mean it, you put in your mouth for a week. You'll be stunned at what you see. Start an exercise program that will do some strength and some conditioning. Stretching is important too. If you want to be able to move as you get older then you need to be moving now. Lastly, before you say you don't have time, is make time to do it or accept the results of not finding it. One thing I forgot, the ultimate killer of your testosterone production is belly fat and age. One we have control of one we don't. Eat well and maintain a good weight and those levels will surprise you in how much you can recover them.

The more I think about it, the more I agree. Mine serves its purpose, and I'm not adding or removing accessories off the hand guard. Changing the optic on top... that's a different story. One of these days I'll find one that I like.

The problem with 'mandatory' is that it can be used as a tool for exclusion or prohibition. Look at voting and planned parenthood/abortions as examples. I agree that everyone who owns a gun should be proficient and trained. Instead of mandatory classes the government could incentivize it. Similar to Defensive Driving. Take a class and get %%off your homeowners insurance. Also, if the government was interested in training and education for safety purposes then they would be advocates of firearm safety/education in the classroom. Something they've fought.

Thanks for clearing that up, Smokin’. Some people were suggesting that I was breaking the law by not changing my DL and FID over to my apartment address, so I became a bit concerned. My takeaway from this discussion is that the dealer will most likely NOT give me a hard time for my DL and PPP showing a different address than what’s that on the manufacturer summary sheet (last time I had a gun shipped back to me, the service department included a summary with my name and address listed on it). Furthermore, I am legally allowed to have/transport handguns to/at my apartment in the same manner as with my permanent residence. There is no requirement for me to change the address shown on my DL and FID from my permanent residence to my apartment.

Thanks Tony for the help. Yeah, I agree there's a learning process on this pistol. The only problem is that learning process isn't cheap Ventura Munitions makes a load specifically for DE's. They are out of stock now but I'm thinking about buying a box of that. Good thing is, what ever my DE doesn't like, my 29-3 has no problem with so nothing goes to waste.

When I carry carry in PA no one has ever seen my gun or ammo because it's concealed and nobody knows I even have a gun.... Ammo may only be a legal issue if I have the need to use the gun..... If I need to use my gun I I have bigger problems than ammo type..... Personally I am unconcerned.....

Regarding gout, I've been a gout victim for over 35 years. I always attributed it to quasi-genetics because most of my father's side of the family had it and none of us are/were grossly overweight or had particularly bad diets. For years I took allopurinol to reduce blood uric acid and indomethacin when I had a flare up. After years of on-again off-again attacks, I decided to try to tackle the issue head on. I reduced my intake of "rich foods" and drastically reduced my beer intake. I was never a heavy drinker, but I did enjoy a beer (or 2) after digging in the garden after work. I always got my worst attacks in the summer when I was more likely to become dehydrated, thus concentrating the uric acid. Also, my beer intake was higher in the summer. When I started to force myself to drink more water and added a tablespoon of "tart cherry juice" to each 12 oz glass of water, my gout episodes stopped. The cherry juice helps your body excrete uric acid. I've had so much success with this that I long ago stopped taking the allopurinol and never need the indomethacin anymore.

I would advise taking off that Hogue grip. It will start to slip during extended range sessions and make the gun feel weird. If you need more traction, get grip tape.

I need a bigger safe first! I panick bought some stuff that I don't have a need for. I'm waiting until I move and have room for a proper work bench before I build anything else. I'd like to do the next one from the ground up.

When buying ammo in NY I was asked for my "pistol license". I handed the sales clerk my Firearms ID card. I'd drive to PA and avoid that potential situation not going as planned. At least check NY law for handgun ammo first, if that's what you're going for.

I got such great deals on both my 2-piece FF rails (DD omega and a Troy MRF) that I wouldn't replace them anyway. Both are rock solid. Those Troy FF tubes look great too. Gotta say - DD did an excellent job with the Omega line considering how slim it is for a quad rail. Perfect size IMO.
  27. 1 point
Yup. Rails are fine. They work and will continue to work for quite some time. But, if you want to cut some weight, ditching a rail for a tube is an easy and affordable way to drop ounces. I also have come to prefer the slimmer feel of the tube type hand guards, and the elimination of the rail sections streamlines everything, removes a failure point, and cuts even more weight. Win win win. (Big fan of the Troy tubes for guns with a standard AR barrel nut and pinned muzzle device, and the ALG EMR on new builds. Looking hard at the Hodge tubes now as well for any new builds that will be using a laser) In reality, If you are not putting anything other than a vert grip and a white light on your hand guards, the plastic Magpul MOE or MLOK hand guards will do everything you need in an effective, lightweight, and very affordable package - including direct attachment of light mounts and grips without needing a rail section.

Rails are fine, no need to jump on the latest wiz-bang gizmo that pops up.

Yeah. I agree. Its just an annoyance like everthing else. Even my local pd gave up investigating it and just asked me what happened. My township administrator is an ass. I applied early jan for a "shooting gallery" permit. Cause theres a no discharge law here but with a farm and property you can get it. Hes been jerking me around for 4 months now. Its a long story. Ill tell you next time i see you. Just like the bs im going through to do ro duty at sjsc. Wtf. I cant wait 6-8 years from now ill be residing in nc. F this state and more. But thanks for checking in.

Damn I hate to say this but I agree with Zeke. The defeatist pussy attitude many of you show combined with the amount of stupid gun owners who still vote Dem is why this state sucks. Trump won because the working class actually voted. If the working class gets out and votes in NJ we will at least get another GOP governor. Maybe this time he won't be a RINO. I think technically, if he still has full access/housing rights to the address on his DL, FID, and P2P (his parent's house) , he didn't really "move".
  38. 1 point
The address on your FPID is irrelevant for a pistol transfer. You don't even need to have ever been issued one. All you need is a valid PtPP and a form of ID. If you use your DL I'm not sure if the address has to match if you can prove the address on the PtPP is yours some other way, maybe a utility bill? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I previously had 2 residences and kept my FID from my old place in New Brunswick - I still got some mail there and it worked just fine.

So if it's your "Permanent" address you should be fine - you can keep more than 1 residence.
