Dont know why it happened, just completly out of the blue. Destroyed a bunch of parts and peices on my press, I have a feeling it's going to take a long time for dillon to get replacement parts out to me.

Be happy your OK -- Bet you crapped your shorts...

Was it fast, like 1 big bang or slow and hear every one go off?

Did the little woman come running to save you?

Glad you didn't lose an eye or finger ... It's just a press -- I've got an old single stage RCBS you can borrow :)

It wasnt a sequential bunch of explosions lighting off each primer, but 1 big ass boom.

I wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary, happened on the up stroke when seating a primer. Happened very fast.

Just a small burn on my right hand that was nearest to it all, and some brown stains in my shorts.

I sent dillon an email just earlier explaining the story and a list of parts that I need.

Holy crap! Glad you're ok.

Did the primer you were seating go off, or was it one in the disc that might of gotten hung up?

The primer I was seating was the first to set off I think .

Crazy how the spark was able to jump from primer to primer in the primer disc plate and up the primer tube.

Yep, your buddy txt's you asking to borrow half your press.

Could have been a lot worse. Just think, all of those wedding pictures with you wearing an eye patch.

Glad your ok, Doofus!

Glad you are ok... were you wearing safety glasses?

This may be one good thing about the square deal, the primer you are seating is away from the next primer to be seated..

the square deal may be a better option if you are seating primers deep for the light revolver springs..

Yeepers. Glad you weren't hurt.

I've read that it's good practice to occasionally wash out the insides of the primer feed tubes, to remove the small amounts of priming compound dust that may build up in there. You've reminded me that I'm years overdue for doing that.

Glad to hear you are OK. Guess the outer primer tube housing did its job. A very scary occurance. All the more reason to keep extra primers and powder stored safely away.

I would note the lot number of the primers somewhere. Not wishing any more bad luck, but a little prudence would suggest going slow with the rest of that lot. With today's crazy pressure to produce, a QC issue is a definite possibility here. Would not be the first time a bunch with sensitive anvils made it out of the factory.

Glad yer O-K Alec! Looks like the whole rest of the tube went-off sympathetically. Tell Nick: Forget the eye patch--grab the Bomb Disposal Suit next time ya load those primers, lol!

That Dillon Press did just what it's supposed to do under those circumstances. Containing that explosion might have created even more of a problem to anyone near it. And for all of my friends on the thread, please use this as an example of why it's a good idea to wear safety glasses while reloading.

Again, glad yer O-K!

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
