raz-0 1,259 Posted March 20, 2014 im surprised people outside of jersey even know what PR is.. I cant say that I have seen it many places on a menu outside of NJ.. in fact, i had never even heard of it til i moved here Got it at a local breakfast place in Las Vegas. I've gotten it in PA and Florida as well. I did a lot if growing up in Dover nj. It was pork roll if you were ordering a sandwich and Taylor ham if you were shopping for the stuff at the supermarket. DSD1026 48 Posted March 21, 2014 Tastes the same. . Erm.. No it doesn't.. If it tastes the same to you, something's wrong with yer taste buds. Lol
Hooligan 0 Posted March 21, 2014 Hunterdon is not south jersey and its pork roll here in Hunterdon. Unless you're the Spinning Wheel Diner on rt 22, then you call it taylor ham. I call it pork roll. You haven't lived until you've used chipotle ketchup on a pork roll (or bacon) egg and cheese on a roll.
fishnut 2,358 Posted March 21, 2014 ^^ doesn't count because the owners are from Greece not NJ. I haven't been to spinning wheel in a while but I more or less grew up in Lebanon so I have been there quite often. They even gave us a whole room for senior cut day back in high school. LOL good times!
Hooligan 0 Posted March 22, 2014 ^^ Disqualifying Greek-owned diners removes at least 50% of the pork roll cuisine in the state.

DaveR 42 Posted May 21, 2014 taylor ham for me, its a regional thing. I've checked the menus of several diners in my area. None have " pork_roll " , all have "taylor ham" But I'll agree, other areas call it taylor ham. Try ordering buffalo wings outside of the US. One that messed me up was an Italian hero ( or hoagie, grinder, etc... to some of you ) I ordered in VA. No oil / vinegar / oregano... It had Mayo! WTF??? Or try getting good pizza or bagels outside the NY / NJ area.
DeerSlayer 241 Posted May 21, 2014 Or try getting good pizza or bagels outside the NY / NJ area. Impossible good pizza only exists here, or maybe in Italy. But I couldn't tell you because I've never had pizza there. I did however make the mistake of ordering a couple slices in Scottsdale AZ once. I asked the guy before I ordered if they had good pizza, his response was "I have the best pizza you've ever had in your life". To witch my reply was "really? I'm from Jersey" he then said "well... its not that good". Lol. He was right.
n4p226r 105 Posted May 21, 2014 Or try getting good pizza or bagels outside the NY / NJ area. bagels i'll give you. i've never had a good bagel outside the NY/NJ area. but pizza, you are far off. Two of the three best pizza's I've ever had were outside NJ. Una Pizza Napolenta in san francisco is by far the best pizza i've ever had 3rd best pizza i've ever had was inside Epcot in disney orlando.
RubberBullets 65 Posted May 21, 2014 Pizza, Chinese food, pork roll, Bagels... if we could stop with the nullifying of constitutional rights and paying more than anyone else in the nation to live here we'd be in great shape.

dobie 0 Posted May 22, 2014 The first time I ever had was at the Worlds Fair in 1964 (I was 12). They had a booth where they were selling sandwiches on hamburger rolls. Everyone loved it. My family has been in Jersey since the turn of the century and no one had known about it. We lived most of that time in Union County so maybe it was more of a South Jersey thing then
Wolfy 51 Posted May 22, 2014 New York has the best bagels because of the water and how it affects the yeast. Who is John Galt? I am so excited I figured out how to change my signature.

mipafox 438 Posted May 23, 2014 Taylor Ham. Cherry Hill has the best bagels. Lots of jews. Also, the Philly area has great pizza. South Jersey is better than North Jersey/New Yank. But it is all centered on Jersey. For those of you NY D-bags, go four score miles north or west and you got squat. South Jersey, you run out of food 100 miles west or south of Philly and the NJ state line. You just drew a circle around outer Jersey in your mind. F NY water. It's nonsense. NY pizza, bread, nothing special. Do a double blind test with 10 samples from NY and NJ, even south NJ, and you'll lose. Simple confirmation bias. DeerSlayer 241 Posted May 23, 2014 On a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese with salt, pepper, you have to have ketchup or its not edible IMO. Now on a hotdog ketchup is sacrilege, unless your below the age of 5. I don't even want ketchup in the same room with my hotdog.
