There is a significant loss everytime a state agency changes weapons. NJSP and Police in general are not great handgun operators in general. Believe me. They dont want them to be used in a crime and the last known user would be a State LE agency. It has happend twice that I know of in the past. Not with the State Police but with another agency.

Many of the older generation gun owners DO NOT like modern sporting rifles. They like hunting rifles and THAT IS IT. I can't wait for them to all die off.

We are discussing things on a forum. Not writing a history book. If I were I would double check my info. I guess you have never made a mistake. Okay I erred. However I corrected myself in the subsequent post. It was Colts not S&W. The fact is they had 10mm handguns. I took a hit for the 10mm MP5 although I may not be wrong. Yes, military and LE have different needs. Do you expect everyone on the House appropriations committee to understand them? If you recall correctly Sig won the first round of tests for the 9mm, they were cancelled and Beretta won the contract. Many strange things happen in government when you're asking for money to spend. The FBI of course never made a mistake. Back in the 70s their ammo tests showed the 95 gr RP JHP "high velocity" 38 load worked the best. That wasn't reflected in actual use though. My sources were guys involved in the testing. Yes, as the head of the firearms unit Hall okayed the final report. So it contained what he wanted. You can listen to him. You don't have to listen to my sources. Oh yes, to be clear. Sources say Mireles had a 686 and Platt a 586. Look at the Wiki entry for one. It really doesn't make a difference unless you're writing the investigation report. The finish has no effect on the gun's performance. Suffice it to say it was a L frame. We can agree on that. I'm guessing you've never been in a confrontational situation. You don't remember everything. There were no dash cams in those days. One has to reconstruct as best as possible from what people involved did. How are you so sure Platt was moving much more slowly when Mireles shot him? From the TV movie? Everything goes slow mo in a fight. You can look that up if you don't believe me. You can think I'm just an old man with short term memory issues and have no idea what he's talking about. And you would be wrong. As for cracked S&W frames I'm guessing you didn't look hard enough. I never said it was a common occurrence but common enough to be a concern. Just like the slide separations on M9s. I've never claimed to know everything. I'm too smart to say that. I don't know where you get off saying I have a pompous attitude. I never said I'm always right. If it makes you feel powerful and intelligent to do research to sharpshoot me on things that I'm recalling from 30 years ago have at it. A 4" 357 is the best all around handgun IMO. I never said you can deal with everything with it. Most things. Very good for SD against bad guys. I'd prefer something bigger if I had to contend with grizzlies for example. You like a 44 Magnum. That's okay but what do you base that selection on? A 44 mag has less recoil and muzzle blast than a 357? A 48 oz M29 shooting a 240 gr bullet has less recoil than a 45 oz GP100 shooting a 158 gr bullet? Does your 44 defy the laws of physics? If a 44 mag is the ideal handgun for SD why isn't there a single agency or organization that has EVER issued it as primary handgun? Are you basing your choice of a 44 on your extensive gunfighting experience? A full charge 44 is pretty much overkill as a SD handgun. You think a 9mm out of a 2" is a better round than a 38 +P. I dont. But I'm old so what can I know? Think what you want. I don't care. I'm old enough to know I can't please everyone. I've been that way for some time now.

Well, I have been involved with this forum for quite a while now, and judging by my screen name, you can see I am an automotive enthusiast. I figured this would be a great way for members to get to know me better and experience my passion for cars as I grew up. I will start at the beginning and work toward present day.... I remember my Dad walking with me, and saying..... " you will grow out of this" ..... boy, was he wrong....lol I will include in this blog entry, my 1st car..... mostly because I have NO pictures of it, which makes me sad because it would have an obvious influence on the future of my hobby..... I bought my 1st car 6 months before I had my license ... It was a 1976 Pontiac Grand Lemans - It was Black.... It was 4 door, and it had a little 260cu in V8.... As all Pontiacs were known for, it had a beautiful dash layout and I did, of course, take it out for trips around the block before I had my license and when parents were not home.... I was a Senior in HS and once I got my license, my friends piled into that car and went everywhere..... but it would not last long. I beat the hell out of that car, and it was getting to the point where my parents wanted a more reliable car for me to go to college with..... so 6 months after I started actually driving the car..... it went away..... but it left a lasting impression on me, as you will see in my future rides....

So, in preparation for me going to college, my parents wanted a more reliable car. So halfway through my Senior year in HS, we sold the Lemans, and I somehow convinced my parents to allow me to buy a car with a standard transmission. Not an easy sell, since neither of my parents were car enthusiasts. I had self-taught myself how to drive a stick by a co-worker at my job, letting me take is 70's Ford Pinto around the restaurant in the wee hours of the morning as we were cleaning up for the night..... So the next car was 1979 Toyota Celica..... little did my Dad foresee how much I would mod this car.... So much for me "growing out of this" ..... Yeah.... I went nuts. I will admit, I had very little hands on mechanical training at this point, so most of the mods I had done by shops. I had all the emission controls removed off of the 20R engine, then had a Weber Downdraft Carb installed, a Hooker header and full ANSA exhaust. I am pretty sure I did Koni's and sway bars all the way around, larger wheels and tires.... Front Air Dam, headlight covers, fog lights, sunroof and all the other required bolt on crap that was available back then... That car handled VERY well and scared quite few of my friends on the local back roads. My best friend also had a Celica, his was a 78. We spent a lot of time on my driveway cleaning and polishing these cars..... good times. Well, college did not really agree with me, and once I dropped out after Freshman year, and started working fulltime, the increase in income allowed me to look at getting into my 3rd car.....

More legal gun owners in NJ the better! Welcome.....and I'm sorry. LOL. Just make sure what you are bringing is NJ legal as stated above. What part of NJ you moving to?

Correct. The 38 Long Colt they used in the Phillipines was seriously lacking in stopping power. The immediate solution was issuing 45 SAAs they had in stock. Not sure what the Moros got high on. They were radical Muslims who refused to be subject to US rule. Kind of like the same drug used to strap on a vest of explosives. The 45 ACP was adopted as a result of the Thompson LaGarde tests of 1904. You can find the entire report online. Only 40 or so pages. Yes, that's the same Thompson that later invented the Tommy Gun. Keep in mind those 38's were 38 Long Colt not 38 Special which has a longer case and is a slightly hotter round. IIRC the 38 Special wasn't included in the Thompson LaGarde tests although it was around.

Most Federal agencies destroy their out of service and seized guns. Customs used to sell them to FFLS and use the money to fund new firearms. They sold their 686 "CS1" revolvers to FFLs who sold them to the public in the 90s. Someone bought one and used it to commit suicide about a year later. The press got hold of the fact it was a CS1 and got a lot of mileage from "US Customs supplies gun for suicide". Customs started destroying all their old guns as NYPD has for years.

One day, we will carry here. Depends on current events if it will be by law, or that of combative necessity.

I must be the polar opposite here. I have never had a 9mm and currently have 2 .40's. Reasons being, when I got into pistols in the late 1990's 9mm's (and .380's) were considered "weak" SD rounds. Also, price was a factor for me at the time; .45's too expensive to shoot. My first pistol was/is my SIG P239 in .40. Stupid me, I thought one day we would be able to CCW in NJ, so I bought a compact pistol as my first handgun. Same thing when it came to my first "plastic" gun purchase. I went with the G23 in .40. Never did I once think or was led towards the G19 in 9mm. It think the move back towards 9mm has more to do with the ballistic capabilities of 9mm now over the .40 than anything else. Also, that is the NATO standard round, no? I have this debate with myself all the time: Do I sell my G23 for a G19? When considering a new pistol (S&W Shield, Springfield XD, or Walther) do I look to purchase them in 9mm? Also, what I consider is do I really want to add another caliber to my collection? I have .22, .380, .357/38,. 40 and .45 now. 9mm too?

No FPID (Firearms Purchaser Identification Card) is needed to bring in or possess any firearm. While in NJ, a FPID is needed to .... 1. acquire long guns .... 3. acquire handgun ammo .... 3. transport them to places other than ........ A. a gun store ........ B. a gun range ........ C. personally owned property ........ D. your place of business Your ARs are fine if neutured. They can not have .... 1. folding or collapsible stocks .... 2. flash hiders .... 3. threaded barrels .... 4. bayonet lugs Only the Colt AR-15 is banned by name. Magazines must be "permamently altered" to 15 rounds or less.

I had two Strider MFS Fixed blades that I got for a song. They are a little big for daily carry but have made excellent entry tools for work. My only complaint was the paracord wrap handles. I have been looking for scales, but the MFS has been out of production for a while and I couldn't find any. A buddy of mine from CT said he had a friend that does custom knife handles in G10 and offered to get me in contact. Just got them back today: I am very happy. They feel great and look cool too. The phone doesn't show it very well, but the dark scales are more gray than black. Now, does anyone know someone that can make me new Kydex Sheaths for them that will fit on a Safariland shroud?

No worries. I believe most of share ours. You are certainly welcome to try out my Mossberg 590. However, it is an HD shotgun, not optimal for clay shooting. Mmmm, maybe that's the reason I can't hit those dam things! Then again, I am very much a novice at clay shooting.

Would love to hear Sig's side of the story. In any case, the complaint does not actually state how many of the guns actually had issues. I wonder how many lunches Glock reps took out the powers that be. I am still in disbelief that SOOOO many guns can have so many issues, yet other departments don't have any? And reading the complaint, they allege that both the Enhanced Elites and Legacies have had the issues. At the end Sig suggested it may be the barrels and offered to replace but NJSP already ordered Glock 19s as replacements. Don't get me wrong, I am not a Sig fanboy, far from it, I am just having a hard time accepting the allegations are complete reality.

I don't know why you would want to do that. You might luck out and get one of the guns that work. You might get one that Sig has been unable to get to run right for sometime. Odds sound worse than a crapshoot to me. More like playing Russian Roulette with only one empty chamber. I find this amusing that all the Sig fans refuse to believe Sig might have made a batch of lemons. People here and on other forums have jumped on blaming the ammo without knowing what kind of ammo they use. I don't know of a single LE agency that uses steel case ammo. I've seen some claim this lawsuit has basis in the fact NJ is an anti gun state. The fact is NJ bought something, it didn't work, they gave the manufacturer the chance to fix it, and they didn't. As a NJ taxpayer I think one would be glad the NJAG is pursuing this rather than all those criminal cases about a single hollow point rolling around in a trunk or all those people being prosecuted for not taking the most direct way to or from a range with a handgun.

  31. 1 point
^^And you know what that, is what made me want to find a deal on one, as opposed to just getting a VP9 - literally everyone I know with a P30 series in V1 Light LEM sing nothing but praise, and say its best of both worlds if you like striker pistols without a safety but want a hammer fired HK - maybe I spent a bit more but it sounded like a great trigger system to learn, hammer fired HK's are known to be bulletproof, and to "switch it up" as my last 4 pistols have been striker fired - plus John Wick! Lol - Yes I'm excited to receive it I've heard nothing but tons of praise!

^^I 100% agree with you on new pistols - Gunbroker is never cheap - Shipping and credit card fees, etc, I like to buy direct from distributors. A guy was selling an HK P30L, 9mm in V1 Light LEM - BE date code so 2014 manufacture, and he said he purchased new and it sits in his safe and he ran maybe 150 rounds through it so its like new - I ended up winning auction at $730 and the least I can find for brand new from distributors is at least $150 more than that - so I got a decent deal -

I just won a pistol on Gunbroker - He had positive feedback of 13, returned emails promptly, answered all my questions - lets hope it all goes smoothly. I'm with JT - on Armslist, FTF or use Premium Vendors -

I know it's not much, but I always try to bring someone new to the range that has never fired a handgun or has been afraid. At least 1-2 a month sometimes more. I show them it's not something to fear but to respect, it's not a evil weapon but a tool. It doesn't hurt anyone by itself. If enough people learn this and maybe enjoy going to a range, and are educated that they might NOT be able to enjoy this hobby because of the Dems they might vote REP. Already had a number of people apply for a FID card. We might not change anything this year but maybe in years to come it might change the mentality.
