What was the 1st Firarm you purchased.

Recommended Posts

What was the 1st firearm you purchased, why and are you still happy with the choice you made?

My 1st purchase was a new Taurus 608 SS8 revolver.

I always wanted a revolver in .357 and the bigger they are the better they look, but if I could do it over I would have went with a 4"-6" barrel the 8" is just to big and cumbersome to shoot more then a few through at at time, kinda kills the fun factor.

My first firearm - although purchased for me by my dad because of my age (11) - was a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. It was to be my deer gun. It was ordered from an ad in the American Rifleman and sent directly to the house (that should give you a hint as to how long ago this was). The first firearm that I purchased for myself was an H&R revolver, a model 929 if memory serves - which was a 9-shot .22LR. It's just gotten totally out of control since then. Most recent: Sig RCS Nitron yesterday - born-on date of 11/18, Sig is really pushing them out the door.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I have been shooting off and on for 45 years and owned several guns back in the day but they are long gone. Since I took up shooting again a few years ago, the first thing I bought was my Mark III Hunter. I love it!

My first firearm (still have it) was a Remy 870L Wingmaster. My dad bought that for me when I was about 11 or 12.

The first one I bought (long gone) was a 10/22 that I purchased while serving for the USCG in Astoria Oregon.

When I was still in high school in 1970 I (my Dad, actually) bought my first gun, a Savage Anschutz 64SL that I used on the varsity rifle team at Lehigh University. Sold it in the late 70's to a fellow southpaw and bought my Series 70 Gold Cup with the proceeds.

Colt Trooper Mark V

That would have been the Mark III and you are right, they were junk. We had a few fail out of the box in the academy.

My first firearm was bought so long ago that a FID card wasn't needed. Actually my father had to buy it for me and it was a Remington 40XB in 22lr.

Smith & Wesson Model 457 .45 - Still have it, I have never sold any gun, and don't plan on it. Not crazy about this one, or perhaps its the nice and crisp 800 lb trigger?

How would you know what the trigger is like, that would mean you actually shot the gun.

Chad when its your time to go, your family is going to be like a gun store, it'll be like opening a brand new store with all new guns :):lol:

    • If you’re going to VA, buy 2 radios.  Program one for here and one for there.  If you guys are buying Baofeng radios do yourself a favor and get a tactical antenna for it,it’ll extend your reach.
    • Both our memories are a bit lacking. 3 bystanders were hit by NYPD bullets and 6 were hit by fragments at the Empire State Building shooting. The bullets later were determined to have passed through the bad guy as I said. He was not a big guy. The police fired 16 rds and 7 hit the bad guy.  Spray and pray?  I think not.  These officers fired until the threat was stopped and everyone is moving. Have you ever tried to hit a moving target whilst you're moving.  If you watch the video from where the police encounter him, the BG draws his gun from his bag, NYPD guys shoot, and the BG hit the ground is about 2 or 3 seconds.  The closest officer is maybe 12 feet or less.  The closest cover are those concrete flower pots.  If the officers chose to take cover before drawing the BG would have had a chance to shoot at least one officer. Know your target and beyond?  Agree 100%.  However, this by the Empire State Building at 9 am during the week.  There are bystanders and traffic in every direction.  The officers had a choice of doing what they did or letting the BG shoot them with his 1911 and shoot someone else. I think they made the right choice and the same one I would have made.  The officers exercised the best option in protecting themselves and the public. The first video is the police shooting.  The second is more detailed and gives you a lot of background information on the shooter. One thing this shows is if NYPD had to use fmj undoubtedly more bystanders would have been wounded perhaps killed.  NJ's hollowpoint law. only creates more danger to the public.
