Brainstorming is good! In that vain, let's ask one of the most asked questions on the forum: "Will the NJSP web site be updated with what a citizen CAN DO with firearms and replace the mumbo-jumbo of conflicting info, including the co-mingling of 2C Statute intrastate laws & interstate FOPA guidelines now written as "going through New Jersey"? It can be somewhat simplified as thus: "How to transport firearms WITHIN NJ as a NJ resident" & "How to transport firearms INTO NJ from another state while moving to or attending a sanctioned match in NJ" Man oh man would THAT help! Cause right now, all the Newbies read that EVERYTHING IS ILLEGAL and they never read the EXEMPTIONS correctly!

How would this be different from when I walked out of a FFL in Bayonne busy street, walked right infront of police car, to my car parked about 5 streets away. All of this with ammo in a plastic bag and firearm in the plastic box it came with. Local cops would know this is FFL location and I didnt get stopped, molested or arrested. Or when drove on my motorcycle to range with backpack on and a Ruger bag hanging on the side of the motorcycle with "Ruger" logo clearly visible and any reasonable Cop could infer that I am transporting firearms.

Permit #2 went to this little guy, a Taurus model 85 in stainless. This is not an ultralight, so she is a little heavy but helps with recoil. i have to say this thing is awesome! Its very well built and shoots great. The grips are fantastic ever for my x-large hands. Trigger is nice and the single action is great. i put about 50-70 rounds last week and after settling in i was getting nice groups. This is my first snub so still getting used to it. my only grips are the front sight disappears a bit (some paint will fix that) and speed loaders get hung up on the grips, so you need to work it a bit to drop in, no biggie. Overall i am impressed its my new favorite and plan on carrying it when i hit Florida in a couple months. Taurus is running 40 dollars rebate on these now, so if you are into snubbies this may be worth a look. This one cast me 210 after rebate but the blues are even cheaper now. cheers!

Yes you are overthinking this. Load your car , get your friend, put his stuff in your car and go shooting. Do the opposite on your way home. Am I the only one the cops aren't following around 24/7 to see if I break any gun laws? Or maybe I'm the only one not driving around waving them out he window of my car?

Years ago HS kids used to bring their .22's on the train/bus TO SCHOOL! And shoot them in the school basement for practice cause the school had a RIFLE TEAM! Then they'd bring them home on the train/bus too! Shotguns in the Principal's office was a common sight during hunting season. My how far we've come as a society! Now we're asking if it's okay to drive 5 doors down the same street to pick-up a fellow shooter to do a LEGAL activity. Forgive me, all of you, while I wrap my head around THAT!!! This makes what I wrote in the other thread (NJSAFE questions for NJSP) even more necessary (a RE-WRITE of the possession & transportation gun laws in plain fricken English, using the EXEMPTIONS with what you CAN DO w/ firearms)!

I just googled the Glock 17M. All this excitement over a Glock that looks like a Glock? Odd.

hahahah I was self-taught that you should search first before making a new topic, got lots of questions

I am interested in gathering any questions folks have. Don't worry too much about how it's written, if its a repeat, or whether someone asks a question you think might be obvious. We are brainstorming here. In a week or two all the submissions will be synthesized into one coherent list before being passed along.

It has been more than a couple years ago that we used to hold informal meet-ups just to BS about guns, legislation, competition, the challenges of being a gun person and living in this gulag or whatever gun topic moved us. Time marches on and we have many new members on the board, so it seems appropriate to revive this, dare I say, tradition? Here's the skinny. Key word above is "informal". There is no agenda, there is no sign-up or a request to know who's coming and who's not. There is no rescheduling - come, don't come - do whatever the spirit moves you. This will be held outdoors at the Starbucks on Route 31 and Denow Road. They are the end unit of a small strip mall and can be seen easily from 31. For you GPS users I believe the physical address is 800 Denow Road, Hopewell Twp. It is about a mile or so north of the I-95 / Rt. 31 exit. I would ask that if you attend, please patronize our "host" and at least buy a cup of coffee. This will occur this Thursday evening (8/24) starting at 6:30 PM and lasting until the last person leaves. I'll be there at 6:30 with Maggie (my brown GSP), who is a Starbucks regular. If you have one - you may want to throw some kind of chair in your trunk so we don't co-opt all of the business' seating (it could happen). At the worst I'll enjoy a nice frew-frew drink by myself and go home - at the best, we'll get a nice turn-out and have a pleasant evening discussing the things we like best. Hope to see you there. Adios, Pizza Bob

Yeah, I decided to ignore the comment, because not the Brian fooking Aiken thing again. Just like the McDonalds hot coffee lady, it never fails to appear.

Not Brian Aiken again! I'll start by saying what he got arrested for shouldn't be illegal. He is only a poster boy for stupidity IMO starting with saying something to his mother that worried her so much she called the police. If he hadn't done that most likely nothing would have happened to him.

Is it legal for an entity (town, city, etc) to require that firearms applications (fpid and handgun permit applications) be notarized? If it is not legal, to whom should one go in order to rectify this situation? Is it legal for an entity to delay an application beyond thirty days? Is it possible that an application can be processed within 30 days using the current NJ required background check systems?

I remember reading this same Q&A months ago. Nothing in the law has since changed.... 5 doors??? All this mental contortion for 5 doors over? Unless you live in the sticks and five doors away is like 10 miles apart, or you live in busybody heaven, why is this even given a second thought?

maybe this yr after the conference we can get a compilation of the Q&A's posted here on the forum. I think I inquired about that last yr but dont think it happened. If I'm wrong would love for it to be pointed out. Congrats on the continuing success of it.

Yeah, im confident that if it came to standing in front of the jury id have sufficient evidence to protect myself as far as proving that its my business or whatever goes. Fortunately, everything went well. Will probably start carrying there daily. Few shady occurances lately along with the neighbor stating that kids were trying to break in. If its within the law i dont see why not.

Obnoxious Yet Required Note: I am not a lawyer. Pay a lawyer if you need legal advice. I would carry a loaded weapon at my place of business, just like at my home. Be very aware of physical boundaries of business area. Common sense, legality of retreat where possible and use of force rules, blah, blah, blah apply. Self-Defense (S3:E7) was up on Law & Order today, involving a business owner shooting would be robbers with guns, but then pursues them outside the business area. I know its TV, but something to keep in mind.

When you get your voting ballot and also in the voting both the is a re-write of what you're voting on done in simpler terms that doesn't take a lawyer to decipher. This method would be handy here. And how does all this apply to vehicles without a trunk. Motorcycles, pick-ups, minivans, etc.

The courts determine justifiable need. Not the NJSP FAU. You don't get denied by a Trooper. You get denied by a judge. Some of these are wuestions better asked of the AG or a representative from the DCJ.

Just picked up a Hornady LNL AP from Cabelas. Went through Active Junky for 10% back, had a $20 off $150 coupon, and signed up for a Cabelas card for another $25 off. Ended paying $352.99 shipped. Should get $35 back from Active Junky in a couple months. You can definitely pick up some good deals if you shop around. Also picked up an Ultra mount with a quick change plate. Definitely something to consider if you want to raise the press up higher and be able to swap out other presses or tools quickly. "Gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy has pledged in his campaign that "All gun sales should be subject to a tax that will fund law enforcement, drug treatment centers, and mental health services." Has the NJSP advised Mr. Murphy or his campaign on any aspect of this proposed tax?" "Gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy has pledged in his campaign that he "...would require individuals to register their firearms kept in the state." Can you speculate on how a mandatory registration system for all firearms kept in NJ would be implemented and enforced?"

I can attest that being denied a carry permit has no bearing whatsoever on future P2P applications. I have 2nd person personal knowledge of this multiple times over. Mueller, the guy that was kidnapped TWICE by the same motorcycle gang and DENIED a CCW later sued (front page coverage in ANJRPC's News & Briefs) & was granted his CCW in Sussex Co. after being DENIED his carry permit. Next time he went thru a NICS, he passed w/o incident. Ditto for Albert Almeida from "Party of Six". Albert wrote about it extensively both on this forum and his Facebook page. He also wrote that he has never had to write any explanation(s) of any denials on ANY application for P2P's before, during OR since he sued & won his court battle. Every one of Albert's P2P's went thru w/o incident. It is my opinion that although it's a great question, it's one that has already been answered. It's also the opinion of many 2A Patriots such as myself (and tons of others) that the FEAR instilled by the possible denial has resulted in fewer applications for carry permits on a larger scale the likes of which are used against us when stats are reported: "More than 90% of CCW applications are APPROVED, so there isn't a problem with "the system" as it appears to be working fine".... At SOME point, it is my belief that we all ought to apply en-mass for our carry permits so we can all be denied by NJ, thus proving once and for all that "May Issue" state of NJ is in reality a "NO ISSUE" state. Then we file a Federal Class Action seeking relief. In other words, we "turn the tables" on the statisticians^^^. Currently less than 1,300 CCW's exist in NJ, most are RPO's (retired Police Officers) in a state with a population of 9 MILLION.

Google "NJAG guidelines on reasonable deviation". Picking up and discharging passengers is specifically listed as a reasonable deviation (as are others). It also covers things like stopping to eat, get gas, use the bathroom, and other things too many think they can be arrested for in NJ. Read the entire memo. It also instructs police to not make an arrest or sign a complaint without consulting a prosecutor if they are trying to make a case on reasonable deviation. The memo would cover a situation where you live in Union Co, go pick up your friend in Sussex Co, shoot a match in Ocean County, bring your friend home and then go home yourself. Of course in this example you might, as Ricky Ricardo used to say, have some "splaining" to do. I've said before and I'll say it again. In 50 years of shooting (most in NJ) I have heard of anyone being charged with illegal possession going or coming from a range. Shooters in NJ have performed all the reasonable deviations for years with no issues.

I have never met the man face to face. He is DSG Bloom when acting professionally and Mr. Bloom otherwise - until he gives me permission to call him anything else. I was raised to say Mr, Mrs, Miss, and Ms and to use titles and honorifics as necessary when addressing strangers or if I am talking about a friend/acquaintance that would be a stranger to the person I am talking to. DSG Bloom is the only person to give permission to call him Brett. Not me. Not meant to be on a high horse, just the way I was raised. Now, back to your regularly scheduled topic.
  40. 1 point
Peel - good to go on all points. Like I said - friendly reminder to all, nothing specific. He worked hard to make DSG. That should be recognized if he is acting in his official capacity.
  41. 1 point
This is not aimed at anyone in particular, just a friendly reminder from someone that works in an extremely conservative municipality and is a staunch supporter of the 2A, who is assigned to speak publicly whenever the subject of "Gun Rights" is brought up in my community. Remember folks - NJSP is only the enforcement arm. They don't make the laws. They don't name or define the criteria for assault weapons. They don't write the policies governing permitting, etc... The legislature makes the laws, then the AG/NJDCJ figures out how to implement the laws into practice in a way the NJSC will deem Constitutional*. We finally have a real live person in DSG Bloom that is open to our requests and believes in sharing info with the public. He is a big believer in the 2A. He actually puts stuff in writing via Email! I know for a fact that he has to regularly measure what he wants to say against what he's allowed to say. He knows the system is jacked. Unfortunately he is in no position to fix it directly and he is not going to bad mouth his agency. Having someone like DSG Bloom available to us has been a long time coming. Let's not put him in a bad spot by making him speculate on things he can't control and shouldn't guess about. Making him choose between personally held beliefs and official policy:State law at an event like this is uncomfortable at best, self defeating and career ending at worst. Asking specifics regarding the laws we currently have will yield the best results. Any question that requires speculation on the future - especially with the elections looming - will be hard to answer. *We may not agree with it, but somewhere a judge has deemed our firearm laws acceptable as they currently stand.

I just saw T Bill's question as I was typing... but I'd like to be even more specific and pointed... and hope that you would ask them a multi-part question: Judging from information posted on here about permit waiting times, many of the NJSP barracks are the worst offenders when it comes to missing the 30-day required time limit to issue permits. Clearly, there are MANY issues with the process itself that are antiquated and problematic --- out of date technology such as an older multi-part form that requires a particular type of printer, a centralized process with a ridiculous distribution system for approved permits (whereby barracks "occasionally" send troopers by car to pick them up), etc. Where exactly are you on improving that overall process? What specific steps are being changed/improved? By what date can we expect a new, improved (and legally compliant!) system to be in place? Can we have your verbal assurance, here today, that the improvements will move forward regardless of who becomes governor? (After all, it's the LAW). Does anyone in charge at the NJSP see this for what it is - a terrible public relations problem that erodes the credibility of your agency in the eyes of many of NJ's law-abiding citizens?
