I strongly believe the 2A community does itself a great disservice by continuing to use the terms "large capacity" and "assault rifle". This only reinforces these words with the ignorant public and plays into the hands of the opposition.

Great topic and lots of good points. Not 100% caught up on the newest optics but will say... price does not always equal quality... just look at all the eotech issues in the past. For scopes, this is why I am a fan of Nikon. Great quality glass, but does not have the reputation in the gun world to command premium prices. Reputation or perhaps marketing dollars? As to the Wilson vs RIA... whichever gun I had experience with in the past or know what was done with it.... or "a Glock." I have shot plenty of cheap 1911's such as RIAs and Taurus and can easily say they are good quality guns with a high degree of reliability. Yes, their tolerances are hand fitted and they are not as smooth as glass... but that is also what makes them pretty reliable. Again, the locked room question... Wilson vs RIA.... Are the guns cleaned and lubed? Are we indoors or outside with sand blowing everywhere? I am not familiar with Wilsons and their methodology BUT... replace wilson with almost any gun made for gun games, such as my SVI... and the answer is simple... RIA! The SVI is an amazing 2011, super tight, super accurate and 100% reliable (when cleaned/lubed)... BUT I know that any time the magazine hits the ground or a piece of fine gravel or any sand blows on the gun... it is time to strip it and clean it. A great place to see this in action is towards the middle and end of the day at Shot Show media day when the prototype and hand built guns are out of commission meanwhile the basic Glocks at the booth are running with no signs of slowing down. So in essence, if your life depended on it, would you rather have a Russian AK or a fancy AR made to stay under 1MOA out to 1,000 yards... give me the AK all day long if we are talking about peace of mind it will go bang at some bag guys at under 50 yards. It really boils down to the purpose.... and that is why a Glock is a glock. You don't buy one for accuracy or status to show off to your friends. If Wilson was built for combat/reliability... yes would have that. If it was built for accuracy and as a showpiece... give me the "built for idiots" RIA or Taurus.... and in both cases, as much as I LOVE my 1911s, I would prefer any glock if we are talking about the probability the gun will go "bang."

Note that the ANJRPC in it's briefs uses the term "standard capacity" while their opponents use "large capacity" in all their filings. It's entertaining.

I would think that any weapon where the power of that weapon can be fully controlled by law abiding citizens should be protected by the 2nd amendment. You can make an argument that even fully automatic weapons can be controlled by the user. On the other hand weapons like nukes or biological/chemical weapons that can indiscriminately kill tens of thousands of innocent people, where the power of those weapons can't be controlled, wouldn't be protected since they violate the rights of innocent people. Large magazines don't make weapons uncontrollable and indiscriminate in nature. So should restricting magazine sizes and denying large capacity magazines to law abiding citizens in an effort to reduce violence pass the 2nd amendment test? I would think not. The government should have to prove that law abiding citizens simply possessing large magazines violates the rights of others and is directly responsible for violence, and that magazines restrictions on the law abiding would somehow prevent criminals from obtaining large magazines through other means like the black market. If the government can't prove all these points collectively and I don't believe they can, then the 2nd amendment should protect large capacity magazine possession. And notice I use the term "law abiding" because criminal behavior should have no bearing on the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding people.

For under $300 in stuff from PSA, you could build this. Now THAT'S a major award!

Dude, it's only been up 3 days. It is already blowing away records. I'm sure this guy thought this through. This is America, where anything can happen. It's goin' down brah.

I just donated $50. This money isn't going to go for a wall. Lawyers, judges, and politicians will find a way to make sure this fails. But, it sends a strong message that Americans want this badly enough to voluntarily reach into their own pockets to fund this. Our elected "leaders" care about 1 thing: Staying at the feeding trough. They need campaign contribution to do this. This go fund me campaign is a signal that indicates what positions we are willing to fund. This can have influence.
  8. 2 points
True, and despite my misgivings about the ultimate outcome, I've donated as well. It's up to $7.5M, which is less then 1% of the goal (and a little more than 1/1000th of the amount needed), but it's symbolic. If it fizzles or is blocked, maybe they can send the money to support the families of fallen LEOs, or the Kate Steinle Foundation.

I don't want to because I want to be wrong.

It does. I correct the usage every time I hear these or other terms like 'automatic' misused. I invite everyone else here to do the same.

1000 likes for you sir. You have won the day. I cringe every time I see "large capacity" and "Assault Rifle" no matter who speaks or writes the words.

I think the point is that Bibas’ dissent was based on the fact that the state did not meet the bar necessary to burden any Right, whether it is 2nd, 4th, or 5th.

You just proved my point, and made two contradictory statements. It doesn't matter what his opinion is on the other two which is why he doesn't give it. The Majority has to address each violation argued. If he argued that the magazines are covered under the second, and that the state provided no justification for public safety. That then means the state cannot require you to forfeit them, and that an equal class is established under the removal of enforcing the law. Their is a blanketed understanding of the implications of what he said.

Triple-amputee Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage of Florida has decided that if the government isn’t going to do their job to keep America safe by securing the border, then he will. But not alone, of course. Kolfage has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the U.S.-Mexico border wall that President Trump promised to build during his presidential campaign. Kolfage created the campaign on Sunday, which is titled “We the People Will Fund the Wall.” The crowdfunding goal is $1 billion to help fund President Donald Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall — one of the president’s original campaign tent poles and a point of contention on both sides of the aisle. Kolfage page states that "It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.” “If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” Kolfage continues. “That equates to roughly $5 billion, even if we get half, that’s half the wall. We can do this.” https://www.gofundme.com/TheTrumpWall

I think Trump should put out a twitter saying he will dare the Congress to at least match what the American people want and have done here. One, it"ll be more publicity for this campaign and two, will put the democrat controlled congress in the hot seat. They would look so bad trying to refute this effort.

Calm down everybody. At it's current rate of $1 Million/day, it would take 5,000 days or 13 YEARS to get the $5 Billion needed. Of course, GoFundMe will take a cut. Then there's the problem of getting the money into the Government, since it's their land. You can't give money to the IRS and earmark it for your pet projects. Think of what damage Soros could do if that were possible. The organizer is legit, but it's going to amount to nothing more than a stunt. When the thing fizzles out, he's going to face some hard decisions - what to do with the money collected. And if he hasn't created a non-profit or charitable trust, he'll be in a world of tax hurt.

I tend to be pretty hard on a rifle/optic, especially while out on the ranch. They get banged around, tossed in pickup trucks, and generally used and abused out there. I need an optic that can take a licking and keep on ticking. I prefer Trijicon ACOGs(think I have 6 now)...for one, they are pretty well bulletproof, and two, my 52 year old eyes aren’t what they used to be, and I need the magnification. I have one TA-31F in particular that has been beat to shit, but has never lost zero, or failed me in ANY way. Hell, I lost my footing out there once while on top of the hill, and slid about 40’ down on my back, with most of my weight on my rifle. the optic and the rifle had some scratches, but never lost zero. I did have to pick a lot of cactus thorns out of my ass, though. Yep, they ain’t cheap, (and they aren’t ideal for everyone’s needs), but they work for me, and have been absolutely reliable. I’ll pay good money for an optic (or for that matter, ANY gear) I don’t have to worry about babying, and that meets my needs. I don’t call that ‘overpriced’, I call that good value.

In 5 years of membership at R14, I was never once asked to do a show and tell. I've never seen a mag or muzzle inspected. The ROs didn't even bat an eye at my M16A1 either. Though, if you aren't wearing safety glasses, they'll be up your ass.

Range 14 is great. Highly recommended. Nothing quite like an AR10 (or bigger) with a muzzle brake just a few feet away from your head. I'm surprised that my teeth didn't rattle out a few times.

What, don't like the muzzle blast from that guy firing his AR next to you?
  29. 1 point
At Range 14, you can shoot your rimfire on the 50 yard pistol line. That would get you away from the big noisy guns on the rifle range.

Bibas argued the entire law was unconstitutional based on the criteria for justifying public safety, and the undue burden placed on LCM owners... It's not specifically mentioned, but its covered in his dissent in a round about way. The entirety of his dissent is that that state made zero argument in limiting the rights of individuals. The dissenting opinion doesn't have to hit every point of the case when the fundamentals of the law are found to be unconstitutional. His main argument discredits every sub argument of the majority opinion.

Proper field dressing is key, be it small game to large game. If everyone who hunted did so responsibly I doubt this would be an issue. Un-retrieved game is obviously not a good thing. I've been eating game I've taken all my life, same with my dad who's very healthy at 93.

I third R-14. They now offer a $20 day pass for civilians and $10 for active duty. However, since you are active, you may as well get the discounted full year membership for $30.

You need a valid hunting license to shoot at WMA ranges. Range 14 at Ft Dix is probably your best bet. Commercial ranges all charge about $25 an hour.

Ok, let's all get a grip here. Ann, Zeke, Rosey and others here have all met Karen and I. It's not our first rodeo. The "walking on cloud nine" and "love conquerors all" is out the window at our age and applies to the kids just starting out. There's a certain amount of business to take care of first. Pre-nups, wills, etc. We didn't work all our lives amassing our vast fortunes for other people's children or their spouses or even future spouses of ours to inherit it all. That being said: So we're just dotting our i's and crossing our T's to not repeat any mistakes. Only fools rush in where angles dare to tread (didn't Elvis say that?). P.S. If my attachment worked below is the engagement gun I proposed with. It's her Golden Boy. I had a custom cover made for it. I posted it again so @Mrs. Peel can't say I'm not a romantic. Nah!

stupid idea and one that has been tried by the US, Russia and the UK in the past. An entirely new weapons platform will need to be developed and a new trigger. The Russians were the only ones to successfully field a rifle like this with one putting 3 bullets off of one trigger pull into the same hole but NOT SURPRISINGLY, it wasn't reliable. Army needs to spend this money on further training and stop trying to reinvent the wheel. The m4 series of rifles are more than adequate, reliable, accurate, cheap, and ergonomic

In all honesty, I would not trust a 1911 with my life. Now, if in some weird world where I fell into a ditch and those two guns where sitting there and I needed one to save my life? I'd grab boff. Chamber check each one, put one in my wasteband and make motha effa's red until the gun be empty. Then NY reload and spray kats some more.
